Lily has received care at our hospital for spinal muscular atrophy since she was a toddler, including regular treatment and support from her neurology, nursing, and Child Life teams.

The 12-year-old from Fort Dodge, Iowa, enjoys riding her handcycle bike, swimming, and spending time with friends.
For years, Kid Captain Lily Lee and her family have made the three-hour trip from Fort Dodge to our hospital for treatment for spinal muscular atrophy. Kid Captain Beau Harvey of Cascade, Iowa, received a heart transplant at our hospital in November 2025 after years of treatment for complex congenital heart conditions.

The 15-year-old from Cascade, Iowa, loves math, football, video games, and playing cards.
Through surgeries, setbacks, a heart transplant, and more than four months in the hospital, Beau’s care team never stopped showing up for him and his family.
“The care he received was absolutely amazing,” Beau’s mom says. “Everyone just worked so hard.”
