Today, Special Representative of the Secretary-General @HannaTetteh met with representatives of registered political parties based in the south of Libya to discuss the current challenges facing their region including the lack of essential public services.
The representatives called for ensuring service delivery, political process participation, development resource allocation, and the protection of elected municipal officials from political disputes. Additionally, they expressed support for the Smaller Convening Agreement while expressing their concerns regarding the reduced role for political parties in elections and requesting that the Mission raises the issue with the relevant actors.
They also informed the SRSG of the tragic passing of two children in the south last week due to the practice of storing extra fuel inside vehicles, a practice caused primarily by the ongoing fuel crisis in the region and different parts of Libya. SRSG Tetteh expressed her condolences regarding this tragic incident.
