Is this just a reaction to gas prices? What part of the economy is actually bad right now? Real GDP is growing. Median household income is at an all-time high, and wage growth has outpaced inflation. Unemployment is about 4 percent and hiring picked up in 2026. Poverty is at an all-time low. Equities are near all-time highs. The U.S. is a large energy producer and exporter. New-home prices and construction costs are down, and rents have fallen in many places. Consumer spending is up. Are Americans just that picky? Pretty much any other country on earth would be celebrating these numbers.
