Saint Pius of Pietrelcina (Francesco) Forgione, priest, of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin: in the convent of the little village of San Giovanni Rotondo in Puglia, he spent himself wholeheartedly in the spiritual instruction of the faithful and the reconciliation of penitents. He provided for the poor and needy with such care, that being truly configured to Christ crucified, he completed on this day his earthly pilgrimage.

Tomorrow, Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen will be beatified in St. Louis. Most Rev. The Catholic Church in the United States will observe National Migration Week beginning September 21 and culminating with the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees on September 27. For over 45 years, the U.S. Catholic Church has celebrated National Migration Week by reflecting on its history as an immigrant Church and the ways in which the country has been enriched by generations of immigrants, including the many Catholics who have adopted this land as their own.

Today the Church celebrates the Feast of Saint Matthew, the tax collector who left everything to follow Jesus. Most Rev. That relationship carries a responsibility: to reject antisemitism in all its forms, to deepen our understanding of Judaism and the Jewish people, and to work so that Jewish communities can live and worship free from hatred and fear.

All these champions of Christ, including three bishops, eight priests, and laity, both married and unmarried, elderly, young people, and children, were subjected to torture and by their precious blood consecrated the very beginnings of the Church in Korea.

God has different ways and fresh ideas even for those who consider themselves to be first and believe they have earned what they have, that they deserved the results they have achieved.
