President Nechirvan Barzani received US Consul General Gwendolyn Green. Discussions focused on US–Kurdistan relations, regional security, resolving Erbil-Baghdad issues under the Constitution, and the importance of forming the new KRG cabinet.

A new phase in US–Iraq–Kurdistan relations must bring greater economic opportunities and stronger trade partnerships. I had a productive discussion with US Consul General Gwendolyn Green on our shared commitment to turning this ambition into tangible results.

Prime Minister @masrourbarzani and @USCGERBIL Wendy Green reaffirmed commitment to post-OIR bilateral cooperation and stability in Kurdistan. Boosting economic and investment ties, reactivating Kurdistan Parliament, and constitutional solutions with Baghdad were also discussed.

The U.S. Consulate General in Erbil is thrilled to welcome back Ambassador Steven H. Fagin, who returns to Iraq as Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Many of us in Erbil fondly remember Ambassador Fagin as our Consul General from 2018 to 2020, when he worked to strengthen ties with the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. That experience will serve him well as he advances U.S. interests across all of Iraq, including the IKR. Congratulations, Ambassador Fagin, from all of us who had the privilege of working alongside you. Voting in U.S. Elections from Overseas – U.S. Mission Iraq Be an Active Voter by taking the necessary steps to vote in the 2026 U.S. elections.  Voter registration deadlines vary by state.  Some states require voters to be registered 30 days before an election.  Check the Federal Voting Assistance Program website (FVAP.gov ) to find more information on the deadline in your state.  Whether you are a first-time voter or have voted absentee in previous elections, you should complete a Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Request (FPCA) each year to ensure you are able to participate in elections as an overseas absentee voter.   If you have already completed a FPCA in 2026, check your state’s voter registration  verification website, or contact your local election office, to check the status of your absentee ballot request.  Using the FPCA ensures that your state will send your ballot to you at least 45 days before the election.  Once your ballot arrives, complete it without delay.   Please note that election materials only need to contain sufficient U.S. postage or be placed in a postage-paid envelope.  Printable postage-paid envelope templates are available on FVAP’s website. As he concludes his service in Iraq, CDA Harris met with Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to discuss shared priorities between the United States and Iraq, including safeguarding sovereignty, defeating terrorism, and expanding commercial ties to deliver tangible benefits for Americans and for Iraqis.

As he concludes his assignment, #CDA Harris appreciated the opportunity to consult with President Amidi on shared priorities.  CDA Harris reiterated U.S. support for the Iraqi government’s vision to ensure a brighter future for all Iraqis free from terrorism and to deliver a strong and mutually beneficial U.S.-Iraq partnership.
