Indeed, the first sentence of the second paragraph ... it resonates over 70 years later: "the production function has been a powerful instrument of miseducation" ! @US
This page from Joan Robinson’s article is one of the most powerful pieces of writing in the entire economics literature of the second half of the twentieth century. Joan Robinson, The Production Function and the Theory of Capital, The Review of Economic Studies, Vol. 21, No. 2 (1953–1954), p. 81.

It is a bizarre proposition that the fragmented nature of modern mainstream economics implies the absence of a definable mainstream. At some point all the practioners in different fields will defer to a body of knowledge which "accounts" for the relative value of commodities, the distribution of income, the scale of the economic system and its path through time, in a world free of imperfections rigidities, information asymmetries etc. and by implication what answers to these questions would look like in "the real world". This is a case of not seeing the wood for the trees. This smacks of the ignorance of the development of the discipline, @USydneyEcon
I wish the FATAL challenge to mainstream economics was the proud ignorance of its own history and what even is heterodox economics. Might have something to do with politics, but who knows 🤭

Look Ma, I’m on TV! Me on recent research about the effects of RBA decisions on the homeownership rate. Rising rates+falling incomes depress homeownership. Borrowing constraints are key. Effects can last more than a decade. abc.net.au/news/programs/the…

I show "stay at home" explains about half of the surge in housing demand in the US during the pandemic (doi.org/10.1016/j.jhe.2022.1…). But "work from home" has been extremely sticky in Australia: >1/3 employees still WFH. My 2 cents: in Oz the boom-bust is an interest rates story.
The surge in housing prices following the pandemic was partly driven by increased demand for floorspace with working from home. It was overdone. Workers are going back to the office and now we are seeing a correction.

Last week, I spoke with 7NEWS about El Niño and its economic impacts. Higher grocery bills are possible, but bushfires is the more tangible risk. Note, El Niño only shifts probabilities: there was no El Niño in 2019, and no Black Summer-like fires in 2023 (a strong El Niño year)

El Nino watch: July SST anomaly is above 1.5 degrees. We have never seen this much of an increase this early in the season before. We are already in a strong El Nino territory and, likely, we have not even seen the half of it.
