A PIECE OF ADVICE
Looking at this whole Manchester City saga, one question keeps coming to my mind:
Which players did Manchester City buy that suddenly makes the club โillegalโ?
They bought players through normal transfer deals, sold players, developed players, competed on the pitch and won trophies. If the issue is financial-rule compliance, then letโs discuss the actual rules and evidenceโnot pretend every City transfer was some criminal operation.
And IF Manchester City are ultimately found guilty of the charges against them, then the Premier League should also be willing to examine other eras and clubs under the same principle.
1. Sir Alex Fergusonโs Manchester United era โ investigate the financial practices and circumstances surrounding that period.
2. The final years of Roman Abramovichโs Chelsea ownership and the Todd Boehly era โ examine the financial structures, spending and accounting practices under the relevant rules.
If the message is genuinely โeveryone must follow the rules,โ then apply that principle consistently across the Premier League.
Because right now, as a football fan, Iโm looking at the whole saga and honestly wondering whether sporting success has made Manchester City receive a level of scrutiny that other clubs simply havenโt faced in the same way.
Investigate everyone. Apply the same standards.
No selective outrage.
