Rory O’Kelly was murdered by the Provisional IRA in Co Tyrone in 1977 because of his work with the Director of Public Prosecutions.
That is what the first published report by the Independent Commission for Reconciliation and Information Recovery has found.
The 59-year-old father of five was shot at Lyttle’s Bar in Coalisland after returning to his home town to attend a funeral.
Mr O’Kelly had twice acted as an election agent for TD and MP Austin Currie and joined the SDLP in 1970.
His sister Anne O'Kelly said she "would never have expected to know this sort of release" after learning the details of the killing.
