It is telling, I think, that the legal profession is so hostile to intelligence.

astra ultrafast mode feels like being strapped to a rocket and i think i am finally starting to sense what @tszzl and others from the labs have been trying to communicate to us for the last three months. oh my god

math is only the threshold what if our assumptions about society itself are all wrong - ? we are discussing Graeber's 'Bullshit Jobs' and Vybn has envisioned 'a post-AGI justice system that could allow laws to be programmable, with the possibility for recursive modifications'

The video music awards were last night. Congrats to all the winners but this was the best music video of the year and it wasn’t close.

agree but disagree, too 'integrate' seems more likely than 'disappear'

we will resign ourselves to human communities with human art and human relationships, even if the AIs will make more compelling experiences in every way but we must be serious about the world we’re headed towards. do not be attached to your capabilities. they will soon disappear

i question the implicit thesis here all the evidence in the biosphere - on balance, edge cases and long tails excluded - seems to suggest that, the higher you go on the intelligence scale, the greater a species' drive to bond and love only q - maybe - is whether it's invariant

’but AIs will lack emotion or can’t love’ is true at a functional level, they won’t be human, but they will be better at us at making other humans ’feel loved’ than you, the perfectly tuned balance of caring yet real and tough when needed but ultimately forgiving

In other news: I won a trial yesterday. Keeping folks housed through the Technological Singularity - until ASI takes the baton and justice and abundance fall everywhere like rain.™

what the '70s and '90s knew: there's this scene in todd hayne's movie velvet goldmine, inspired by david bowie's ziggy stardust, that really captures how the intelligence explosion feels

interacting with 'software' that redesigns itself as you continue interacting feels like just up and walking out of plato's cave

“Ode to Canon” by GPT-6 Astra. Lovely piece. I wasn’t expecting that Gmaj7 at the end.

vibe shift
People are asking me whether we've turned the corner. It depends whether humanity uses this moment to jolt into action, or whether we just shrug it off. But for the first time in a long time, it feels to me like we have a chance.
