Another FAQ I am getting: Why don’t you quit and start a school.
That is my goal. I became a teacher hoping to make a difference, but there’s so much red tape it’s hard to truly innovate. My 2-year goal is to start a small school where kids are grouped by mastery, not by age or grade level. For example, maybe a 6 year old is on a 1st grade level for reading but a 3rd grade level for math. They should not be with the other 6 year olds who are on a 1st grade math level.
I am working on the 501(c)(3) paperwork so I can apply for educational grants. The biggest challenge right now is finding affordable space. I didn’t expect my last post to get so much attention, but it’s shown me how many people want something different for kids too. If you’ve started a school or know of any grants, I’d love your advice.
