📊 New figures show US firms are taking a higher share of national income, and it's at the expense of workers. Given that most Unite members are ultimately employed by firms overseas, it's time we demand our fair share. 📈 US firms made profits of $4.8 trillion, or 18% of US national income - the highest share since just after World War 2. 📉 But workers' share of national income has fallen to the lowest level since the 1950s. Back in the UK, the economy is currently worth a whopping £2.8 trillion and growing faster than any other G7 country. But workers' share of the pie is falling here too. 💰 This stark contrast makes it clear - workers are paying the price while firms are raking it in. OVER 2 MONTHS ON STRIKE AND A HISTORIC PAY WIN 📣 Workers at the Institute of Cancer Research are returning to the jobs they love after securing a huge pay settlement. The lowest-paid workers are set to see their pay increase by up to 52%, while other staff will receive increases above inflation. The deal also means an average pay increase of 17.2% over two years, plans to scrap the workplace pension have been dropped AND the staff canteen is coming back 🎉 Many of those who took action had never been on strike or even been members of a trade union before. But workers from across departments completely defied management expectations by standing together on picket lines and at rallies to win the better pay and conditions they deserve. We spoke to Teige, Johnathan, Jamila and Danny about what this win means to them and their collegues. This is what happens when workers stand together. There is power in a union. ✊

🚨 Workers at Legal 500 publisher LegalEase are taking strike action over low pay Dozens of editorial, research and publishing staff at the London-based company are walking out after Legalease failed to improve its pay offer, leaving workers with no choice but to take industrial action. These are the workers behind The Legal 500 – the acclaimed industry guide that ranks law firms, lawyers and barristers around the world. Despite working in London and producing a major global publication, their pay does not reflect the value of their work. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “These workers are chronically underpaid. Abuse, threats, intimidation and violence should not be ‘part of the job’ for airport and aviation workers. Our survey of more than 300 workers across Scotland’s major airports found: over 90% regularly experienced verbal abuse, over 75% experienced intimidation or aggression and nearly a third experienced physical assault. This widespread issue is pushing the workers that keep airlines running to leave the industry with wide impact on mental health. @UniteScotland spoke to Erin about how common these scenarios are. From ground handlers, passenger service assistants to security and cabin crew aviation workers deserve to feel safe at work from the airport to the aircraft.
