From the West Midlands to London, buses are being brought back into public hands. In the West Midlands, the government and West Midlands Combined Authority have decided to take bus services under public control - safeguarding jobs and services after the uncertainty around National Express. Unite represents thousands of bus workers in the West Midlands, and we’ll be making sure workers’ hard-fought terms, conditions and agreements are protected as services move to a new employer. And in London, plans are underway for a publicly-owned bus company, 'Buses for London' to launch in 2027. The first route between Willesden and Victoria is due to begin operating in late 2027, with more routes planned to follow. Unite has long campaigned for buses to be brought back into public ownership. Outsourcing bus services has too often meant pressure on workers, passengers and communities while private operators take profits. Public transport should work for the public and that means good services, good jobs and decent conditions for the workers who keep our cities moving. From the West Midlands to London, the case for public ownership is growing 🚌✊ #PublicOwnership #PublicControl #Privatisation #tfl #westmidlands #buses

Workers pay their fair share- so the super-rich should too 📣 Working people pay tax from their wages every payday, while the wealthiest can have access to tax planning and structures that can reduce their effective tax bills and some push back against a wealth tax. Ian explains why that isn’t a fair system. We’re campaigning for a wealth tax and fairer tax thresholds for working people, so those with the greatest wealth contribute fairly, while ordinary workers aren’t continually asked to shoulder the burden. A fair economy means a fair tax system. It’s time to make the system work for ordinary people ✊

From workplace surveillance to tools for 'efficiency' - AI technology will affect sectors differently. The key question for workers is therefore how employers use AI, who controls it and who gets the benefits? As tech CEO's predict exactly what the future will look like with AI, the focus of our union is making sure workers have power in how it develops in their workplace - and that means organising. 🚨 FTSE 100 average CEO pay busts the £5m mark for the first time. 💰💰 If companies can afford to spend millions on pay, bonuses, shares and pensions for bosses, they can afford a living wage for workers.

📊 New figures show US firms are taking a higher share of national income, and it's at the expense of workers. Given that most Unite members are ultimately employed by firms overseas, it's time we demand our fair share. 📈 US firms made profits of $4.8 trillion, or 18% of US national income - the highest share since just after World War 2. 📉 But workers' share of national income has fallen to the lowest level since the 1950s. Back in the UK, the economy is currently worth a whopping £2.8 trillion and growing faster than any other G7 country. But workers' share of the pie is falling here too. 💰 This stark contrast makes it clear - workers are paying the price while firms are raking it in. Fridge Raiders, Richmond Sausages and Mr Brains could be missing from supermarket shelves across the UK as workers in Enniskillen continue their strike. @food.by.pilgrims instagram.com/food.by.pilgri… made £128 million in profit. But the workers who make its products say they’re struggling to make ends meet 😳 Our survey found 81% have cut back on food because of financial pressures, 79% have worked overtime to make ends meet and some workers are taking on multiple jobs just to get by Now, workers are taking continuous strike action for decent pay and to end a system where morning-shift workers are the only shift workers who don’t receive fully paid breaks. Pilgrim's Unite rep Noreen asked people in Fermanagh what they think 🎤 Workers shouldn’t be struggling to put food on the table while their employer makes millions from their hard work. Our political moment calls for nothing less than transformation. We need change that people can touch and feel now. 🤝 Public ownership 📊 Investment ✂️ Tackling the cost of living by cutting energy prices and lifting tax thresholds 💰 The money is there. ✊ We propose a wealth tax on the richest 1%, equalising Capital Gains Tax with Income Tax rates; taxing excess profits of the banks and restoring Corporation Tax to 2010 levels @UniteSharon in unitetheunion.org/fandf

🚌 Bus drivers can have to go hours without access to a toilet; forced to hold it in or use bottles or hedges. Unite bus workers have been campaigning for years for access to clean lockable toilets and hand washing facilities. This is another huge win for the capital's bus drivers. Authorities and operators across the UK and Ireland must now follow suit

OVER 2 MONTHS ON STRIKE AND A HISTORIC PAY WIN 📣 Workers at the Institute of Cancer Research are returning to the jobs they love after securing a huge pay settlement. The lowest-paid workers are set to see their pay increase by up to 52%, while other staff will receive increases above inflation. The deal also means an average pay increase of 17.2% over two years, plans to scrap the workplace pension have been dropped AND the staff canteen is coming back 🎉 Many of those who took action had never been on strike or even been members of a trade union before. But workers from across departments completely defied management expectations by standing together on picket lines and at rallies to win the better pay and conditions they deserve. We spoke to Teige, Johnathan, Jamila and Danny about what this win means to them and their collegues. This is what happens when workers stand together. There is power in a union. ✊

🚨 Workers at Legal 500 publisher LegalEase are taking strike action over low pay Dozens of editorial, research and publishing staff at the London-based company are walking out after Legalease failed to improve its pay offer, leaving workers with no choice but to take industrial action. These are the workers behind The Legal 500 – the acclaimed industry guide that ranks law firms, lawyers and barristers around the world. Despite working in London and producing a major global publication, their pay does not reflect the value of their work. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “These workers are chronically underpaid. This is a profitable company and can afford a much better offer.” Legalease needs to get back around the negotiating table and make a fair offer to its workers. CREDIT: @ gibography2001
