Monsoon moisture is bringing a lot of rain to Colorado and Utah, including over areas burned by recent large wildfires. That means flash flooding and mudflows are possible, especially in those burn scar areas. Know your risk of flooding and what to do: ready.gov/floods

The #BroadFire in Weber Canyon was highly active overnight and throughout today's shift on the north side of the fire. Dispatch is receiving many 911 calls to "report a fire on the mountain". We want to remind the public that while the fire is not growing, it is not out. It's still highly visible from Uintah, especially Uintah Highlands, as well as I-84 and South Weber. Please do not call to report the fire. With holiday traffic in the canyon, the highway was starting to back up into Mountain Green and Peterson. Fire managers agreed to open both westbound lanes on I-84 to help keep traffic moving, though the shoulder remains closed. However, drivers still need to remain extremely cautious and alert through the canyon. Don't stop or slow to take photos of the fire or aircraft. Please stay alert so we can avoid another accident in the canyon. There continues to be no fire activity on the south or west sides. Minimal activity on the east side. But visible smoke and flames on the north side. Crews are hiked in and working the fire again today, being supported with bucket drops from helicopters to cool the fire's edge. The fire is still 134 acres and 50% contained at this time. Cause is under investigation.

Heavy rain has caused the North Fork of the Virgin River to go from a normal flow around 35 cubic feet per second to a peak of 5920 cfs, the 5th highest peak at this gage on record. Here is a time lapse of water increasing at the gage. #utwx

👀 Good day to stay indoors and away from slot canyons, normally dry washes, slickrock areas, and areas that have burn scars, especially if those burn scars are less than 5 years old.  During storms, don't let anyone sleep in a basement. Flooding can fill a basement in seconds.

UPDATE: Today's Flood Watch has been expanded to include the entire southern two-thirds of Utah. Showers and thunderstorms will become widespread again this afternoon, and any storms that develop will be capable of producing heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding. #utwx

More flash flooding reminders: During storms, don't let anyone sleep in a basement. Flooding can fill a basement in seconds.  Avoid walking through or driving through flooded areas. Floodwaters can have hidden dangers, such as eroded roadways or contaminants. 3/4

Moving floodwaters can be swifter than you expect. Six inches of water can knock a person over. One foot of water can float a vehicle away.  Pay attention to local officials. If the situation becomes dangerous, they may issue evacuation orders without much notice. 4/4

We'll see an elevated risk of flash flooding both today and Saturday across southern Utah as moisture continues to increase. Those with outdoor plans in flood prone areas of southern Utah should consider alternate plans and have a way to receive weather warnings! #utwx
