The @JohnKmitta editor note on "crowds" reiterates the challenges SFMs face w/ increased use demands on our fields (& reminds me of the old university/academic joke that "this would be a great place to work if there weren't any students"). Great to see @virginiasfma member and @vtspes @vtturfgrass alum @CWebb757 & team at @CNUcaptains recognized for @fieldexperts football field of the year, as well as alum @AvaVeith discussing her summer experience w/ World Cup field management in NJ. The value of 'teamwork' is clearly highlighted in both articles (especially the hands-on AD involvement at CNU - thanks for detailing that, Chris!). And the issue is capped off with a great Q/A by Dr. Grady Miller discussing sports field management strategies for something many of us are still experiencing: prolonged drought.

What happens when you combine perfect weather, outstanding turfgrass research, more than 150 attendees, 15 vendors, 21 sponsors, and a Turf Team ready for a good time? An amazing @VTTurfgrass Blacksburg Field Day, of course! The research talks from faculty, graduate students, and special guest speakers were top-notch, but the crowd, conversations, and fellowship may have been just as memorable. Seeing so many people turn out to support @VTTurfResearch was the real highlight of the week. And then there was the 3rd Goatley Rules Tournament… where “rules” may be open to interpretation, but fun and friendly competition are non-negotiable! A huge thank-you to @BlacksburgCC and @BillKeene5 for taking a chance on our crazy idea and letting us loose on their beautiful course. With all 18 holes and golf carts in play, we doubled participation… Proof that more course, more carts, and a few Goatley Rules with obstacles are a winning combination!
