#VPDNews: Vancouver Police arrested a man Thursday afternoon after a series of incidents in Kitsilano that involved a theft and multiple bear-spray assaults. Around 1 p.m., officers received a report of a man having stolen a can of bear spray from a vehicle in the Kits Point neighbourhood near the 1900-block of Ogden Avenue. When the man was confronted by the vehicle owner, he allegedly deployed bear spray before walking away. Approximately 10 minutes later, a second victim reported that the same man approached his work vehicle nearby. When confronted, the man allegedly sprayed the second victim with bear spray, and grabbing and throwing their cellphone before leaving the area. Shortly afterward, the man allegedly approached a woman, pointed bear spray at her, and demanded a ride or access to her vehicle. Officers arrived in the area and located the man, but he refused to comply with their directions and allegedly sprayed bear spray multiple times at the responding officers before he was taken into custody. Jonathan Laberge-Labrecque, 42, has been charged with: ▶️One count of theft under $5,000 ▶️One count of robbery ▶️Two counts of assault with a weapon ▶️Three counts of assault with a weapon of a peace officer He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

#VPDNews: The Vancouver Police Department has identified the victim of yesterday’s homicide in CRAB Park as 57-year-old Victor Charles McIntyre. VPD Homicide investigators are asking anyone who knew McIntyre, or who has information regarding his murder, to contact the VPD Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500.

Today, they ride to remember. The BC Law Enforcement Ride to Remember honours officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. This morning, 60 law enforcement officers from across the province departed from VPD headquarters to begin a 400-kilometre, three-day cycling journey. They will ride through the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, finishing in Victoria on Saturday when they arrive at the B.C. Law Enforcement Memorial Bastion at the Legislature. The riders and support crew will then participate in the BC Law Enforcement Memorial Service on Sunday. Safe travels to the 14 VPD members, as well as all the riders and volunteers supporting them along the way. #VPDNews: Vancouver Police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a man was robbed and stabbed in downtown Vancouver Tuesday night. Around 10:45 p.m. police responded to reports of a stabbing around Granville Street and Nelson Street. Officers located the victim who was stabbed in the arm while being robbed by two suspects who stole his bag during the incident. After the assault, the suspects were last seen running southbound on Granville Street. The first suspect is described as: ➡️Indigenous male youth ➡️Slim build ➡️Wearing a green jacket ➡️Black pants ➡️Carrying a black side bag The second suspect is described as: ➡️Indigenous male youth ➡️Medium build ➡️Wearing a black hoodie ➡️Black pants The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics and transported to hospital. Vancouver Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam footage, or has CCTV video from the area around the time of the offence to contact our investigators at 604-717-3321.

#VPDNews: Vancouver Police (VPD) are investigating the city’s sixth homicide of the year after a man died from injuries early this morning at CRAB Park. VPD were called to the Park located at 101 E. Waterfront Road shortly before 7 a.m. today following reports of a man in medical distress. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, there are no known suspects, and the victim’s identity has not yet been confirmed. Investigators are asking anyone who was in or around CRAB Park between 9 p.m. last night (September 22) and 7 a.m. this morning (September 23) to contact the VPD Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500.

Crown Counsel has approved charges after a teen was allegedly slashed in the face with a blade while out with friends last month on Granville Street. The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is also seeking the public’s help to identify a second suspect. On August 8, at approximately 3:20 a.m., the 19-year-old victim was in the 900-block of Granville Street when two men approached him and his friends. During the encounter, a chain necklace was removed from the victim’s neck and he was slashed. The victim suffered a five-inch slash that ran from the tip of his nose, beneath his eye, and ended near his eyebrow. On September 18, Vancouver Police detectives arrested 29-year-old Garret William Thomas in the Downtown Eastside. The same day, investigators executed a search warrant at Thomas's residence. Thomas has been charged with one count of robbery and one count of aggravated assault. He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing. VPD detectives are also appealing to the public for help identifying the second suspect involved in the robbery. The Vancouver Police Department has seized 328.55 kg of cocaine worth an estimated $5.8 million from a shipping container in southeast Vancouver -- the largest-ever cocaine seizure in the city. Police were called to a Vancouver-based company on July 21, after staff located 14 duffle bags of drugs hidden amongst boxes of t-shirts. The shirts were a legitimate order to the company. “Obviously, the business was shocked by what it found. They called police right away and are in no way associated with the seized cocaine,” said Sergeant Travis Fraser, of the VPD’s Drug Unit. “This amount of drugs, as well as the stamps and packaging, clearly indicates organized crime is behind the shipment.” The investigation has shown the shipping container originated in Honduras on May 18, 2026. It was loaded onto a vessel, then stopped in Jamaica on June 6, 2026, before arriving in Montreal on July 5, 2026. “We believe the cocaine was supposed to be removed prior to its arrival at the company. For some reason, it was not unloaded,” said Fraser. VPD continues to liaise with law enforcement and port authority counterparts in Canada, Honduras, Jamaica, the United States Drug Enforcement Agency, and the RCMP as the investigation continues. #VPDNews

Just before noon on December 30, 2024, a man disguised as a delivery driver entered a downtown luxury retailer and approached staff. He demanded they fill a box with luxury handbags, threatening to shoot them if they refused. When staff declined and contacted security, the suspect fled the store. Ejiofor Louis, a loss prevention officer, responded to the call and followed the suspect outside. He was quickly joined by fellow loss prevention officer Aaron Wong, who was on the phone with 911 providing real-time updates. When the suspect entered a truck parked in a nearby alley, Louis and Wong intervened to prevent him from leaving. During the struggle to remove him from the vehicle, the suspect repeatedly reached for a shotgun on the passenger seat, threatening to kill them. Police arrived to find the suspect on the ground and in handcuffs, with two seized weapons nearby. A subsequent search of the truck revealed improvised explosive devices, as well as a fully loaded shotgun. For their courage and decisive actions, placing themselves in harm’s way to prevent serious injury or loss of life, Mr. Ejiofor Louis and Mr. Aaron Wong were awarded the Vancouver Police Board’s highest award for civilian bravery, the Award of Merit. #VPDNews: The Vancouver Police Department's Collision Investigation Unit is seeking witnesses to a serious multi-vehicle collision that happened on the Granville Street Bridge yesterday afternoon. The collision occurred just after 5:00 p.m. and involved a tow truck, a bus, and two other vehicles. Six people were taken to hospital. One person sustained serious, life-altering injuries, while the other five suffered minor injuries. The Granville Street Bridge was closed in both directions for several hours while emergency crews responded and investigators examined the scene. The bridge reopened at approximately 10:30 p.m. The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to come forward. They are specifically seeking video footage that captured the events leading up to the collision. #VPDNews: The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) issued over $4,000 in fines to local businesses following an enforcement project aimed at reducing youth access to bear spray. This comes after 2026 recorded an increase in incidents involving youth with bear spray, which include assaults, disturbances, and weapons seizures. Between January 1 and August 15, 2026, VPD recorded 104 incidents where youth were involved in a bear spray related incident. This compares to 83 recorded incidents during the same period in 2025. In response, The Youth Investigative Unit (YIU) detectives conducted inspections of businesses suspected of selling bear spray, coyote spray, and dog-repellent spray. Detectives visited 27 businesses across Vancouver to identify potential sources of bear spray and promote compliance with the City of Vancouver bylaws, which note that such spray is not to be sold to people under the age of 19 and that records of sale (including the identification of the buyer) be retained for 12 months. The inspections resulted in $4,000 in fines issued to three businesses for four by-law violations. All businesses visited also received information outlining by-law requirements and best practices for compliance. "Reducing youth access to bear spray is a priority," said Inspector Dave Ballance of the VPD’s Youth Services Section. "This enforcement initiative will contribute to the safety of the community, and we hope it will lead to a reduction of youth committing assaults with bear spray." The YIU will continue monitoring youth bear spray incidents, gathering intelligence on supply sources, and working with law enforcement partners across the Lower Mainland to support similar enforcement efforts where bear spray by-laws exist.

#VPDNews: Vancouver Police are releasing two CCTV images of a suspect wanted in connection with a West End convenience store theft. On September 10, at around 11:30 a.m., a man stole merchandise from a convenience store close to Davie and Thurlow Street. When a pregnant employee tried to intervene, the suspect allegedly pushed her to escape. Police believe the same individual is responsible for a previous shoplifting incident at the same location. Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity is asked to call the VPD non-emergency line at 604-717-3321.

Every day the Integrated Response Team is working hard in the DTES and city-wide to keep sidewalks safe and accessible for pedestrians by clearing obstructions and the removing of unsanitary debris. Yesterday, thanks to the help of a citizen who had a GPS tracking device on his e-scooter, the team was able to recover stolen property including 2 e-bikes, 2 e-scooters, and a portable air conditioning unit still in the box. All of the items had serial numbers, and #VPD would love to return them to their rightful owners. We have recovered over two dozen stolen bikes this month. #VPDNews: Yesterday shortly before 9 a.m., the Vancouver Police Department responded to several calls reporting a multiple vehicle collision near E. 49th Avenue and Elliot Street. Multiple witnesses reported that a car had crashed into several vehicles. The driver left the scene on foot. Despite substantial vehicular damage, no injuries were reported. Wayne Tran, 60, was arrested and has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and one count of failing to stop after an accident and give their name and address. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
