Texans are not obligated to re-elect Republican senators who co-sponsor gun control bills with democrats and demand amnesty for illegals.
If Cornyn voters were fine with those things but not with voting for Paxton, they’re not Republicans.
Three realities facing the Texas GOP right now.
1. Paxton had a window to unite with Cornyn and thus earn his vote and supporters. He didn’t. That window is now closed. (Btw that’s on Paxton, not Cornyn.)
2. Paxton is a millstone around the neck of the rest of the GOP ticket. He will cost us more seats. The only question remaining is who else on the ballot loses, and by how much.
3. The lesson from this looming Paxton debacle has to be candidate quality. We can no longer afford to allow Trump and Dunn to pick our candidates in the primary. The stakes are too high in a competitive Texas.
