You might think you know who is behind the screen. A FTSE 100 company ran a standard hiring process, conducted video interviews, and made an offer. Months later, they received a call from the FBI: the developer they hired was actually a North Korean state-sponsored worker using a rented identity. @Gartner_inc projects that by 2028, 1 in 4 candidate profiles worldwide will be fake. AI resume generators and deepfake interview bots have made applying free and effortless, turning recruitment funnels into massive security liabilities. A resume looks identical whether it was written by an honest applicant, an AI agent, or an organized fraud ring. That is why our partners at hackajob launched Archer Approves, a multi-layer trust system using Veriff to verify government IDs before an employer wastes time on an interview. Dive into hackajob’s latest report, "Who's Really Applying?", to see how 46% of US candidate applications are now flagged for risk: hackajob.com/employer/report…

Veriff has spent a decade answering three questions: is this person really who they claim to be, is this person trusted, and is that trusted person still behind the already verified account? It took ten years to answer them 400 million times. We're at 784 million today, having nearly doubled that in the past year alone. What's changed is the adversary. AI made fraud cheap, fast, and convincing. As agents start acting on our behalf, we'll need an entirely new standard for trust, which is exactly what @KaarelKotkas sat down to discuss at Norte Venture's fireside in São Paulo last week. Thank you Norte for having us, and congrats on the new fund.

"I don't want it to happen in the first place." @ceciliefjellhoy lost more than $250,000 to romance fraud and filed for bankruptcy because of it. When we spoke to her on Veriff Voices, she was clear that reimbursement is not the answer. Prevention is, and it starts with verified identities online. Her words land differently this week, with news that a convicted fraudster plans to launch a dating app of his own. Founders get verified for who they are, not for what they have done. In most industries that is a technicality. In this one, it's the whole risk.

If an AI agent buys a $4,000 laptop on your marketplace, who authorized the transaction? Automated traffic is now both your fastest-growing acquisition channel AND your largest attack surface. Fraudsters know this, and they are using automation to scale account takeovers. The goal isn't to block all bots. To confidently serve legitimate AI buying agents, platforms need to bind the agent's activity to a verified, accountable human. We break down how to get your platform agent-ready in our latest piece for Retail Dive: retaildive.com/spons/prepari…

Yesterday at Latam Fintech Market, Rafael Luque took the stage to discuss the tension between certainty and probability in modern financial decisions. He highlighted one of the most critical blind spots in identity verification: interoperability. Right now, if a fraudster is caught by one provider, that intelligence remains siloed. Rafa spoke about the urgency of breaking down these walls and the immense value of cross-referencing biometric data directly with national registries, a model already proving its worth in Mexico. Fraudsters share information. The industry needs to do the same. We're ready for day 2. If you're at Latam Fintech Market today, come meet our experts to talk about identity, conversion, and scaling securely across the LATAM ecosystem! 🚀

⚠️ Phishing scammers are casting a wider, more random net than ever before. Following recent news of a high-profile fintech data breach, we're seeing a massive spillover into active phishing campaigns that are targeting people entirely at random. Anu Liinev, Fraud Optimisation Manager here at Veriff, recently saw this firsthand when a scam message was sent to her 16-year-old daughter, who doesn’t even use the service the scammers were impersonating. As these attacks get more aggressive, Anu has a few kind reminders on how to spot them: 🚩 Urgency and emotion: Phishing messages are designed to make you panic so you act quickly without thinking. 🚩 Unsolicited links: Never click a link in an unexpected text or email claiming your account is locked, compromised, or requires verification. 🚩 The golden rule: If a message triggers a strong emotional response or demands urgent action, put your phone down, take a breath, and pause. Always verify directly through official channels instead of using the link provided in the message. Please stay vigilant and share this reminder with your family and friends. Stay safe out there!

The point about the world needing to build trust in AI is the one that lands with us. A fact we can contribute: in our 2026 research, US adults shown real and AI-generated media performed at roughly a coin flip. Video was hardest, one pair fooled 70%, yet about half were confident they’d spot a deepfake. Rules that assume people can tell the difference won’t hold. Good to see industry and lawmakers working this through together. veriff.com/fraud/deepfake-fr…
After such a consequential week for AI, with the leading labs demonstrating real progress, today's news feels especially timely: @SVAngel is launching Project Blueprint, a comprehensive effort to forge consensus among industry leaders and lawmakers around durable solutions to the hardest AI policy challenges so that all Americans can benefit from AI's opportunities. And we've brought on @JayCarney to run it. svangel.com/blueprint We are encouraged by the reaction of Sam Altman, Dario Amodei and Demis Hassabis to the launch of Project Blueprint: Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI: "We have before us a technology of immense and still-unfolding wonder. I believe AI has the power to heal people, to discover cures and to deliver abundance on a scale the world has never known before. But we need a way for the world to build trust in the technology so that we can all get to share these benefits. National safety requirements for the most capable systems are a great first step, ideally building towards a global framework for advanced AI models. I’m glad Ron is bringing the people building AI and policymakers together to help move that work forward.” Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder, Anthropic: "AI is advancing faster than our institutions can adapt, and the most important decisions about how it is developed and deployed will be made in the next few years. If those decisions are to serve the public, they can't rest with AI companies alone. Industry and policymakers need to work through them together, with an honest, shared understanding of what these systems can do. We're glad to support Project Blueprint's effort to make that possible."  Demis Hassabis, chairman and co-founder of Google DeepMind and the chief scientist of Alphabet: "We have long said that AI development needs to be both bold and responsible. We support bringing industry and lawmakers together around public policies that promote both innovation and safety."

Verification should be a community standard, not just a security gate. When Feeld rolled out identity verification, they didn’t force mandatory checks. They relied on positive peer pressure. Lead Product Manager Lavina Lim explains in this clip how stepping into a network of verified profiles makes new users want to meet that same standard. This herd mentality of trust is how smart platforms turn friction into a growth engine. Join Veriff and Feeld on stage next week at @MarketplaceRisk in NYC to hear how this approach drives sign-ups, retention, and real-world connection. 👉 "Is This Person Real? Identity, Trust, and Growth in Modern Dating" ft Roberta De Girolamo (VP, Account Management, Veriff) & Lavina Lim (Lead Product Manager, Feeld) on September 15 at 11:30am. Heading to MPR next week? "Only human beings are accountable." As AI agents increasingly browse, shop, and execute transactions on behalf of real people, the identity landscape faces a critical question: How do you handle accountability when a machine is calling the shots? During our recent panel, Veriff CTO Hubert Behaghel broke down why verifying an AI agent at the front gate simply isn't enough.

KYC has officially left the era of compliance. Welcome to the era of performance. Most identity verification teams are still measuring the wrong things: pass rates, audit findings, and avoiding fines. That mindset was built entirely to satisfy regulators. The real metric that matters today is friction. Specifically, the hidden cost of getting it wrong. When you come from a compliance mindset, your biggest fear is a false approval. In reality, a false rejection is a massive business problem. As one customer recently shared with us: "It is ten times a bigger business concern to reject a good person than to let a fraudster through." A false rejection rate that looks like a rounding error actually puts thousands of angry users on the phone to your contact center and hands your acquisition spend directly to competitors. The true performance of an identity provider is the false approval rate combined with the conversion rate they can guarantee. They are two sides of the same number. Are you testing for both? Dive into our latest piece on why onboarding is not just a regulatory gate, and what the shift to "performance KYC" actually looks like in practice: veriff.com/kyc/kyc-era-of-pe…

The market knows the agentic AI wave is coming to flood almost every online business. Yet, the industry is stuck in a classic "chicken and egg" problem. We cannot simply open the gates to autonomous AI agents without a dedicated trust framework in place. Big tech players are building powerful LLMs, and global networks like Visa and Mastercard provide the payment rails. Neither group possesses the underlying identity technology required to establish true, real-time accountability. In the latest episode of our Veriff Voices deepfakes series, our CTO Hubert Behaghel breaks down why trust infrastructure must come first before agentic commerce can safely scale. What do you think needs to be solved before platforms open the floodgates to autonomous AI buyers? Let us know in the comments!👇
