Man dies while waiting for Disability Benefits: This video is a throwback to when my client, who was a retired teacher that had multiple heart attacks, couldn’t get approved for disability after waiting more than a year. That’s why I was a little emotional during my interview! He unfortunately passed away a few weeks later and his widow got the money a few weeks after that 😢

This is good but don’t forget the math (and the motivation) totally changes if you have a lower earning + younger spouse.
Taking social security at 62, 67 or 70? Let’s break it down with these numbers. 62 - $1800/month 67 - $2400/month 70 - $3000/month The difference between taking the money at 67 instead of 62 means you miss 5 years of $21,600/yr which comes out to $108,000. By waiting until 67, you only get an additional $7,200 per year. Take that $108,000 divided by $7200 and you get 15. This means it’d take 15 years to break even, putting you at age 82. Let’s say you wait until 70 for the maximum benefit. The same math we worked above comes out to 12. Meaning it would take 12 years to break even, putting you at age 82. So here’s my question and why I think the answer is so clear and obvious… Would you rather have money at 62 or 82? Comment below and let me know!

I found the only person in the world that likes Chevy Chase
Happy Birthday to my brother and teacher, the greatest physical comedian (Triopenin) since Buster Keaton. His founding work at SNL and his Christmas Vacation movie triumph (snow saucer ride) are examples of his induplicable skills as an actor. Chevy supported my work at SNL in the face of competing voices. We had to hold our faces in this fixed position for several takes. Maybe Landis was torturing us. Have a great birthday week. @ChevyChaseToGo

I have the same dream except I’m back on my college basketball team and I can’t find my uniform
Ed O'Neill reveals he finally retired from his 52-year recurring NFL nightmare at age 75 "I got cut by the Steelers when I was 23 years old. Every year after that, at least twice a year, I would have the same dream." "I was back in camp in uniform on the sidelines, and an assistant coach comes by and says, 'You're in the next series, O'Neill.'" "In the dream I'm thinking, 'I've got another shot, I knew I had been here before.' Every year, the only difference was I was always the age I was at that time." "Cut to the last time I had the dream. Same scenario: 'O'Neill, you're in next series.' Here is where it stopped: 'Coach, you may not know it, but I'm 75 years old.' He said, 'You look great, go on in, you'll be all right.' I said, 'No, I don't think so,' and I walked off the field." "I never had the dream again. Chuck Noll retired me in real life in 1969 by saying, 'Give me your playbook,' which I handed over, starting my career as an actor. Then 52 years later, I finally retired from the recurring nightmare on my own."

Excellent analysis
One of the most persistent misconceptions about Social Security is that it must function like a private pension fund. Many people assume payroll taxes are deposited into an account, invested over time, and eventually returned to workers in retirement. That has never been how the program operates. Social Security is a public social insurance system administered by a government that issues its own currency. Payroll taxes are not placed into individual investment accounts waiting to be redeemed decades later. Benefits are paid because Congress authorizes those payments as part of the federal budget. The Trust Fund serves as an accounting record of past fiscal operations, not a vault filled with financial assets that retirees eventually draw down. This distinction matters because it changes the entire debate. The ability to make benefit payments is not determined by the balance of a savings account. It depends on the government's fiscal authority and, more importantly, the productive capacity of the economy. The real challenge of an aging population is not whether enough dollars exist to pay retirees. It is whether the economy can produce enough housing, healthcare, food, energy, and other goods and services for both workers and retirees without creating inflationary pressures. Demographic trends are certainly important. As the ratio of workers to retirees declines, a greater share of current production must be devoted to supporting those who have left the workforce. That is a real economic constraint, but it is fundamentally different from a financial one. It reflects the productive capacity of the economy, not the government's ability to issue its own currency. This is why discussions about Social Security "running out of money" often create more confusion than clarity. The federal government cannot become unable to make payments denominated in the currency it alone issues. What can happen is that Congress chooses to reduce benefits, raise payroll taxes, increase the retirement age, or pursue other policy changes. Those are political decisions, not financial necessities imposed by an empty bank account. None of this implies that payroll taxes are meaningless. They affect the distribution of income, influence aggregate demand, and shape the overall fiscal stance of the economy. They also reinforce the political perception that workers have earned their benefits through contributions. But they are not the source of the government's capacity to make Social Security payments. The future of Social Security therefore depends less on accounting balances than on the nation's productive potential and the political choices surrounding how that output is distributed. A wealthier, more productive economy can support a larger retired population more easily than a stagnant one. Likewise, policy choices regarding productivity growth, labour force participation, immigration, healthcare, and investment will ultimately do more to determine the program's sustainability than any balance recorded in the Trust Fund. The real debate should not be whether the government can find enough dollars to pay retirees. The debate should be whether the economy can generate the real goods and services retirees need, and whether society chooses to dedicate a sufficient share of those resources to providing a dignified retirement.

This is why I don't teach the turn and run technique on defense in the half court. Offensive players are in scoring range and these types of things can easily happen. Instead..

Daycare calls me. That's never good. For them. Daycare: "your son hurt his elbow and won't move his arm. Can you come take him to a doctor's office?" Me (ex Special Forces Medic): "A real doctor is on the way to you now. I am 6 mikes out. Alert me of status changes." I arrive at daycare. I locate the patient. 21 month old male. Scene is not safe. I drag the patient to cover and concealment behind a seesaw, away from the other small terrorists in the AO. I begin my assessment. Blood sweep negative for massive hemorrhage. Mental status: conscious and verbal but confused (answers "dada" when asked for blood type). One breath every 2 seconds. Bilateral rise and fall of the chest. Strong carotid pulse, strong bilat radial pulse. Teeth and tongue intact no blood no mucus no dip or foreign objects. Eyes PERRLA, negative JVD/trach deviation, C-spine intact upon palpation. Heart sounds strong upon auscultation. Percussion negative for hemo-T. Abdominal quads normal upon palpation. Pelvis negative for book sign. Arms and legs negative for crepitus. However, Patient indicates discomfort in right arm upon palpation and supination/flexion of the elbow. Nursemaid's elbow. I begin interventions. Supination/flexion technique complete at 1215. Palpable clunk on successful reduction. I write the time on his chest in Sharpie. I tape a popsicle to his hand and tell the patient to suck but do not bite/chew. I write "1 x popsicle (10g sugar)" on his chest in Sharpie. I reassess the patient after performing interventions then package the patient for handoff to daycare/higher level of care. I yell at daycare over the Blackhawk in my head: "21 month old male!!! Nursemaids elbow!!! Treated with supination/flexion technique at 1215!!! Patient has 1 x popsicle onboard!!" Daycare: "sir please leave." Me: "you should have called my wife."
