States and subnational governments are stepping up and leading at a time when the federal government is trying to dismantle U.S. climate policy. Linking will unlock greater emissions reductions, lower the cost of clean technologies, and create good‑paying jobs in high‑growth industries. We’re excited to be moving forward.

Earlier this summer, I was in Vancouver for meetings and took a walk on the Salmon Creek Trail. Perfect for biking, walking, running, and absolutely amazing views of Mt. Hood. Some things you should know if you're interested in doing the hike: It's easily accessible — no ferries like my last hike into Stehekin. There are a lot of fantastic side trails. You can check those out at the map toward the end of the video. Be ready to watch for wildlife. I heard red-winged blackbirds while I was there, and there are also ducks, herons, and other birds. I hope everyone gets an opportunity to take advantage of the rest of summer.

While the headlines may have moved on, the work to rebuild from December’s historic flooding continues. The Public Works Board awarded $7.45 million in grants for disaster recovery and emergency infrastructure repairs.   This funding will move important infrastructure repairs forward, including in four flood-damaged communities: Stehekin, Chehalis, Hoquiam and Kent. These projects will fix damage from the storms and help make these communities more resilient in the face of future flooding.   When I hiked into Stehekin this summer, one of the only ways to access this beautiful, unique community, I sat with residents and listened to the challenges they still face as they work to recover. I saw the washout on Company Creek Road. This grant to Chelan County will help restore full access to this remote community, with a modern, more resilient road.   Our state will use every tool to support our communities.

25 years after 9/11, it is important that we remember the tragedy and share the stories of heroism. We must always remember the bravery of individuals that ran into danger, both first responders on the ground and passengers in the air. We must also remember the thousands of people who lost their lives and how that loss impacted so many loved ones. I’ve ordered the flags to fly at half staff today in their honor. Washington state will always remember.

Here's how Washington state is responding to President Trump's Medicaid cuts in the Big Bad Betrayal Bill. Through extensive outreach to immigrant communities, we've helped 3,000 Washington immigrants update their information to keep their health care coverage. We're leading the nation in building an automated verification hub for work requirements that we expect will help 400,000 Washingtonians stay on Apple Health. My new executive order directs the continuation of those efforts. It also establishes the H.R. 1 Continuous Medicaid Response Committee to monitor coverage disruptions and coordinate on opportunities for state action. I directed the Department of Health to develop a data accountability system to track who is losing coverage, and where there are gaps, so the state can take additional action and understand the true impact of H.R. 1 in our state. I also directed DSHS to work with philanthropic organizations and other partners to expand the capacity and reach of the state. I appreciate all of our partners who have rolled up their sleeves to help Washingtonians.

Washington state has printed 5 million ballot envelopes. North Carolina has already sent out their absentee ballots. The Trump Administration is trying to cause chaos and disenfranchise voters as we draw near the midterms. We are defending our state from that interference.

President Trump's chaotic and irrational trade war with Canada will hurt Washingtonians, workers and businesses. Washington is one of the most trade-dependent states in the nation. Canada is one of our most important trading partners: In the first six months of this year, Washington exported more than $4 billion of goods to Canada. I’m looking forward to meeting with Ambassador Wiseman of Canada in the coming weeks to see what we can do to mitigate this situation.

Today Helion Energy announced their expansion with a downtown Seattle office. Helion has grown 10x since moving to Everett 4 years ago — from nearly 80 employees to 800. They will now employ Washingtonians in Everett, Seattle and Chelan County. Washington state's fusion ecosystem is leading the world. That's why I was excited to speak at Fusion Week in the Tri-Cities. Our state is home to the cutting-edge research that makes this industry possible, and the first commercial fusion energy facility under construction. Excited for more clean energy and good jobs in our state.

I want Washingtonians to know about the upcoming impacts of the Big Bad Betrayal Bill signed by Donald Trump last year. Starting Oct. 1, H.R. 1 drastically limits the Medicaid eligibility for lawfully present immigrants. Before the state took action, 14,000 lawful immigrants were set to lose their Apple Health coverage. Starting Jan. 1, more than 600,000 Washingtonians will be subject to work requirements for the first time in order to keep their Apple Health coverage. These individuals will also be required to reapply twice as frequently. We expect that our nation-leading automated verification hub will help 400,000 Washingtonians stay covered, and we've saved coverage for 3,000 of those Washington immigrants. Our work continues as these draconian impacts approach.

It's morally bankrupt what Congress and President Trump did to kick people off Medicaid.  What we have to do is get to work — we're saving Apple Health coverage for hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians.
