Nepali families are beginning the long road to recovery after the recent flooding and mudslides devastated the Nuwakot region. Whether through hot meals, water, or ingredients, WCK teams are there to support them, working side by side with local partners to provide exactly what communities are asking for. #ChefsForNepal

One simple question: what does food mean to you? We asked five members of WCK’s team in Lebanon to share their answers. Hear what food means to them, in their own words. #ChefsForMidEast

For Ukrainians living through the ongoing stress and uncertainty of war, ordinary moments matter. That's the inspiration behind WCK's Preservation Project, which is helping Ukrainians in five regions prepare and store beloved traditional vegetables from the fall harvest. This preparation is especially important as war continues to disrupt energy, transportation, storage, and food logistics across Ukraine. Having food prepared and stored gives people another layer of readiness for the months ahead. And while the finished jars are important, the process of making them is too because it helps bring families and communities together. #ChefsForUkraine

Families from Ukraine’s Kharkiv region are fleeing their homes every day, and entire communities have been evacuated as Russian attacks continue. There are two transit centers operating in the region—in Lozova and Kharkiv—to support people on their journeys, and WCK teams are there to distribute hot meals, food kits, and drinks to anyone who needs them. WCK also delivers meals to nearby shelters for recent evacuees who are determining their next steps. We’re supporting Ukrainians at every stage of these evacuations—from the moment they arrive at a transit center to their temporary shelters and relocation. #ChefsForUkraine

When WCK teams learned that families at an encampment in Swara Valley, Nepal had to travel across dangerous terrain to access fresh water, we decided to bring the water straight to them. Working side by side with our local partners and team members, we laid thousands of meters of flexible pipes, using gravity to bring drinkable water to the families living in tents after the recent landslides. As families in Nepal still have inconsistent access to necessities, WCK teams are supporting them however we can. #ChefsForNepal

Nani has lived in Mastaban Bairini, Nepal, for 30 years and was inside her home when the flash flooding swept through her community. She told WCK that her brother, who lives next door, warned her that the flood was coming just in time for her and her goats to get to higher ground. The local government and other organizations have provided dry goods for Nani and her neighbors, and our teams are providing fruit, vegetables, and eggs to fill the gaps in fresh food that are still difficult for these remote communities to access. #ChefsForNepal

Nina was forced to flee from her home in Novoselivka, Ukraine as Russian forces advanced on it. When she finally returned, she found only the ashes of her former life—her home had been destroyed. Today, WCK brought Nina and her neighbors food kits as a way for them to begin rebuilding after losing everything. These kits are stocked with ingredients she can use to cook for herself again, a major step in rebuilding her life and her hope for the future. #ChefsForUkraine

As more families are displaced in Lebanon, the need for meals keeps growing. The team at WCK’s kitchen in Baalbek shows up every day to meet that need, preparing familiar dishes that bring comfort to their communities while so much remains uncertain. “The best part of my day is knowing that the work I do helps provide hot meals to people in need,” says Chef Reina. #ChefsForMidEast

No matter where people need a meal, WCK will find a way to be there. In Gaza, our teams are serving meals to families most in need. Our partners at the Egyptian Community Committee delivered meals from our community kitchen in Deir al-Balah to Al-Hurriya Camp, where over 800 families are currently living after displacement. These families have extremely inconsistent access to food, so making sure they have hot meals is crucial. #ChefsForGaza

WCK’s Karen checking in with the latest from Gre, Nepal📍 Families in Gre usually depend on the markets in low-lying areas along the Trishuli River for food. Unfortunately, flooding washed everything away, leaving entire communities without access to daily necessities. WCK is making regular helicopter deliveries to Gre to distribute staples like rice and oil, alongside other necessities like soap, to make sure residents have what they need as they recover. #ChefsForNepal

Sweet potatoes are a beloved treat in Gaza, especially in autumn. The local soil is good for growing the nutrient-dense vegetable, and they’re a popular street food around this time of year. Teams at WCK-supported community kitchens in Khan Younis prepared and served plates of roasted sweet potatoes to children, bringing the warm, comforting flavors of the season to life. #ChefsForGaza

Even before the recent landslides, Nepali terrain could be difficult to navigate. Today, because of the debris and damage, it's even more challenging, but that hasn't stopped WCK teams from making sure families in need receive meals. Whether we travel to kitchens by car, by foot, or even by helicopter, our #ChefsForNepal team and local community partners will use any available means to ensure people impacted by this disaster have something to eat.

After being forced to flee their home in Kherson, Tetiana and her family are rebuilding in the Khmelnytskyi region. She has always grown vegetables, so receiving a greenhouse and seeds from WCK is helping her feel closer to the life she had before. “When you work the land, you get distracted from all kinds of thoughts, you miss home less,” she told us. After years of uncertainty and separation, Tetiana says what matters most of all now is having her family close by to rebuild together. #ChefsForUkraine

For WCK, connecting with the communities we serve goes beyond familiar cuisine. When our #ChefsForNepal teams delivered meals in Galaudey, southwest of Bidur, we met Kusum and her daughter, who were displaced by the floods. They love to dance, and they showed WCK’s Karen videos of Nepali songs, dances, and their recitals so she could learn and dance with them. Just like food, dance brings people together to share culture, tradition, and joy.
