Highest long end yields of my lifetime. Seems like the bond market is calling BS on all of these Iran headlines. Long term borrowing costs going up and high yield savings accounts now offering over 4% on cash.

Trimmed some exposure this morning, going through and seeing some signs of froth in things like altcoin OI relative to BTC OI. Meanwhile second highest spike in bond vol of year and yields showing no signs of stopping. Still keeping a sizable % core BTC posn to hold from 60s.

Cross asset vol space is very very very sanguine while rate vol has spiked higher (MOVE now >100) but the more concerning thing is that the only other one that has moved is...credit vol. Risk needs rates to chill the fuck out or this starts getting messy.

The AI trade is accelerating on record earnings, massive compute demand, and high rental rates for chips. I sat down with @WarrenPies to discuss the under-the-radar indicators he's tracking in the market right now, his favorite sectors and opportunities for the year ahead, and his latest views on the macro setup. This conversation will make you think critically about the AI trade. 🚨 META JUST UNVEILED THE VR GLASSES 100 grams on your face - about the weight of a deck of cards. Meta says it has “the best display system that we have ever made,” and people in the demo were literally saying “it is like a computer” and “you could edit a whole movie just using the table.” As Mark explained this is cinema, computer, and a game console all in one, with 3D space, virtual screens, hand occlusion, and DisplayPort over USB-C. James Cameron’s reaction is probably the best quote in the whole segment “I’m inspired by what you’ve created. I’d like to see my work in these glasses.” I am completely one shotted these look amazing!

The biggest exports of the United States are the dollar & capital markets. Stablecoins and tokenized stocks perpetuate this.

Mortgage rates outright are important, but contextualizing relative to median household income gives a fuller picture. Housing affordability has only been getting worse relative to income since '08.
U.S. MORTGAGE RATE TOPS 7% FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2025 The average U.S. 30-year fixed mortgage rate jumped to 7.12%, its highest level since May 2024. Rates have climbed as Fed tightening, higher oil prices and rising Treasury yields increase borrowing costs. The surge is hitting housing demand, with overall mortgage applications falling to a 15-month low and more borrowers turning to adjustable-rate mortgages.

Instructive to see a post like this get so much traction. B200 rental rates up 30% YTD. Hyperscaler cloud revenues tracking along. Remember: GPU rental rates and token prices were supposed to fall over time. The demand metrics this year have beaten all informed expectations.
On the AI front, the trade has been dead money for more than 3 months now. The metrics I am following (token expenditures and GPU lease rates) are all flat to down. The price of memory (DRAM) seems to be the only thing that is still going up. 🧵(1/2)
