RCMP charges Quebec City man with terrorism offences over alleged ISIS-inspired chemical-weapon plot
A 24-year-old Quebec City resident, Louay Angoud, has been charged with four terrorism-related offences following an investigation by the RCMP-led Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET). Police allege he intended to carry out at least one attack on behalf of the Islamic State, communicated online with members of a terrorist group, and gathered information to build a chemical weapon that could be used to poison Canadian citizens. Some reports also state he intended to obtain firearms (see La Presse article in reply)
The charges are:
* Using or possessing property for terrorist purposes
* Commission of an offence for a terrorist group
* Participating in the activity of a terrorist group
* Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
These carry potential sentences of 10 years to life. The allegations have not been tested in court. Angoud appeared in a Quebec City courtroom (by videoconference from an RCMP facility in some reports) on September 24. The Crown opposed his release. A formal bail hearing is scheduled for September 28 in Quebec City
The RCMP has released limited details so far and is asking anyone with information on terrorism or suspicious activity to contact the National Security Information Network at 1-800-420-5805 or local police

Germany’s far-left socialist party Die Linke has won Berlin’s state election for the first time, taking 25.7% of the vote and finishing well ahead of the CDU on 18.8%.
One voting bloc backed the party particularly heavily: Muslims.
A new analysis found that a staggering 51% of Muslim voters in Berlin voted for Die Linke, twice the party’s support across the electorate as a whole. Had only Muslim voters cast ballots, Die Linke would have won an absolute majority.
Die Linke received just 17% among Catholics and 16% among Protestants.
Muslims are estimated to make up roughly 13% of Berlin’s electorate, making them an increasingly significant voting bloc in the German capital.

Russia struck the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk from the air, heavily damaging the Orthodox Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist.
The building suffered critical damage to its walls, roof, and dome. The metal frame was twisted by the blast wave.
