On the final day of #SAHS2026, Wandile Nomquphu delivered the presentation, “Reflections on Advancing Hydrological Research and Understanding: a WRC Perspective.” He reflected on the Water Research Commission's 55-year legacy of funding research to address South Africa's water challenges and highlighted the importance of innovation, collaboration and multidisciplinary approaches in hydrology. Dr Shafick Adams, Senior Research Manager (WRC) delivered a compelling guest address during the Opening Session of the South African Hydrological Society Conference 2026. In his address, he highlighted the need to reduce barriers to information sharing across the water sector so that solutions can be shared, applied effectively, and translated into meaningful action. He emphasised that how we manage our systems can be the solution to many of the challenges we face, and that the data already exists to help us improve outcomes. Recognising the importance of collective action, he reminded delegates that “we are stronger together” and called for greater collaboration among researchers, practitioners, institutions and policymakers. Data sharing, knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships are imperative to advancing water security and resilience for all. Let’s turn knowledge into action.
