Video games used to be art passion projects led by visionaries to share art with others. For about a decade we’ve been in a dark age where attention is the commodity, and even indies must fight in this attention market, but eventually we will get out of this pit.
i’ve been having a crisis recently about how making video games is perhaps contributing to a general pacification of people. escape, distraction, etc. these infinite “task” games seem to be the epitome of this. contextless work, total escape, total passivity. idk.
