Dr. Palmer has experience working with Black women graduate students through her research with sista circle methodology, Black feminist thought, critical race feminism, and critical qualitative inquiry.”

Enrollment in TCU's has increased significantly. In 1982, the total enrollment at tribal colleges in the United States was approximately 2,100; by 2003, it had increased to 25,000 (Diversity Digest).

In the US, Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) are minority-serving institutions defined in the Higher Education Act of 1965. TCU's are operated by federally recognized American Indian tribes. The first TCU was founded by the Navajo Nation in 1968 in Arizona.
