In September we gave a
presentation at the Green Screen International Wildlife Filmfestival in Eckernförde, Germany. We provided practical guidelines on how to fly drones responsibly around aquatic animals to ensure that their natural behaviors are preserved and least disturbed.

Happy that we could play a part in the rescue of Bird the humpback whale from entanglement in fishing gear. Amazing collaborative effort, coordinated by the Icelandic government. Bird was rescued by a search and rescue boat as well as fishing boats from Drangsnes and Hólmavík 🐋
Last month a #whale was spotted behaving strangely in the waters of #Steingrímsfjörður, by Judith Scott of Laki Tours. who raised the alarm with Tom Grove from charity Whale Wise. The story has a happy ending. RÚV English Radio is in Drangsnes to hear it.

She did it!!!
Last Saturday our amazing team member Jess ran the Reykjavík marathon... in a whale costume!
Jess wanted to run with a purpose, raising awareness about the threats whales are facing in our oceans today, and raising funds for future Whale Wise research.

Sakkara and her group were spotted in Steingrímsfjörður this morning chasing birds. This group was previously sighted in this fjord around the same time last year! 🐋

Orcas on the move!
In early July, SN0160 "Sakkara" and her family were sighted near Heimaey in the south of Iceland. Ten days ago, Sakkara was sighted off Látrabjarg in the Westfjords, having travelled over 370 kilometres in just one month!

The Westfjords field season is underway!
The team have already collected aerial images of 17 whales from the drone and collected lots of fluke photos for identifying the whales.
Here’s hoping for a great season with good weather and lots of whales!
