Some memory popped up and saw these event photos.
You can talk a lot of shit about current GORUCK, but in the beginning… it was just a lot of people going thru different traumas and using that that to do stupid events…and each new iteration got harder.
What I loved is that I found something outside of my “normal world.”
Separated, trying to fill the blank skates on weekends I didn’t have my kids, I did these events.
Like running my ultra, this was the last event I did as it was the toughest and body destroying. Over 24 hrs, minimum 40 miles distance with a 40lb (minus water) rucks, team weights, logs and whatever bullshit they found.
It sucked ass. I drive down from DC with five other guys, including actual athletes (competitive multi Ironman finisher), an off season pro athlete and another dweeb like me.
The two athletes quit (baseball field PT and on a ruck… one guy was driving his pickup and feeding to drive anyone back to their vehicles with a hot meal) and my dumb mule headed ass finished.
I was and never will be fast or smart, I just didn’t stop moving.
