Last night I watched the Final of the US Open and the final shot of the match taught me an unexpected life lesson about focusing on the next step, one step at a time, and how the past does not define your future.
Before 2026 Zverev had conquered everything in Tennis minus a Grand Slam. His resume warrants a spot in the Hall of Fame, but the biggest question mark was always his lack of Grand Slam titles.
Some believed he missed his shot in the time between the end of the Big 3's dominance of the sport and the emergence of Sinner and Alcaraz.
People believed he just wasn't mentally prepared to go all the way in a Grand Slam. Those people might have been right.
But something happened. A switch was flipped and the last point of the US Open made it clear as day.
Zverev was so focused on just playing one point at a time and not thinking about the circumstances of the match, the past, his doubts, what others thought, that he didn't even realize he won it all.
He finishes the year with 2 of the 4 Slams, and solidified himself as a genuine contender in every Slam going forward.
It's never to late to flip that switch in our own lives.
It's a running joke in my streams that I'm the only one who cares about Tennis, but I talk about it anyway cause I love the sport. So I decided to share my thoughts here as well. I could write a lot more on this, but I already have a wall of text no one will read haha
Just take the next step!
