The @BetGameCouncil represent multiple businesses that appear to profit from illegal gambling in the UK and overseas. It is untenable for them to continue to advise government and @DCMS should remove them the illegal gambling taskforce.
As @WillProchaska said at the Labour conference this week, so many legal gambling operators are connected to companies profiting from illegal gambling.

Great to join CEGA and More in Common's panel on the next chapter for gambling reform. ✅ Consultation will open soon on aim-to-permit. ❌ Bingo halls cannot become a backdoor for high-risk gambling machines. 🎯 A new Gambling Act, adapted to the modern market and its risks.

I was proud to welcome @DawnButlerBrent and @vickyfoxcroft to the CEGA and @Moreincommon_ panel on gambling regulation yesterday, but I feel aghast that there's been a misogynist reaction from a licenced gambling operator and the sector's trolls. @GamRegGB should intervene.

A strong turn out for today's fringe event, hosted by @Moreincommon_ and @EndGamblingAds. Great to hear from APPG members @AlexBallingerMP and @DawnButlerBrent on the case for a new Gambling Act. The current Act passed in 2005 - an analogue framework for a digital age.

After hearing our evidence, the House of Lords Liaison Committee is today calling for a "comprehensive ban on gambling advertising." Now the Government must act.

The UK banned tobacco advertising because we realised it's counterproductive to allow companies to advertise products that are killing us. The same is true of high carbon products and services, fast fashion, gambling, etc. Where Bristol leads... 🤞 theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…

Gambling does great harm, wrecks and takes lives, it’s highly addictive and socially harmful - these people make enormous amounts of money, the house very definitely always wins - and very definitely always whinges when it comes to paying their fair share of tax. This is a spiteful unnecessary act from unprincipled people, blinded by their own greed. Labour should do more to control this toxic industry.

And we have evidence that legalization drives up suicide. Sports gambling legalization increases suicide among young men (15-34) by 2.4 deaths per 100,000. The suicide rate in that age-sex group was 25.1 in 2018, so the implied increase is close to 10 percent. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.…
it’s nice that the addiction with the highest suicide rate has been exploding in popularity and is able to be advertised and used basically anywhere

Love to see the gambling sector turning on itself in a competition for who's least awful for society and local communities. Surely @bactauk will swing back with an attack on Entain's online business?🍿
