That's a wrap on an amazing 17-day journey across China. I didn't do this alone. My friend @dolylupec came along for the whole ride. She's got a background in AI and robotics investing, and I'm grateful she chronicled the tours on her account and pitched in on my channel. @XRoboHub is one of the most resourceful people I know. He understands the humanoid space well and helped us schedule most of the important visits, then came along too. And a shout-out to @Robo_Tuo, who encouraged me to do this trip and supported us all along. It was my first time in China, and the trip was packed so tight with tours, we didn’t get to do much touristy stuff. Can't complain. It was a hell of a ride. 4 cities on the mainland. 18 humanoid makers. Warm, welcoming people everywhere. We had the privilege of chatting with founders, senior engineers, researchers, and marketing and strategy leads, a lot of whom said yes on very short notice. Grateful for that. The energy is extraordinary. It's the trifecta: engineering talent, a deep supply chain, and breakneck adoption of new tech. There's intense competition, but underneath it, a real spirit of sharing and collaboration. I've got a series of tour videos lined up, dropping over the coming days. And something tells me this won't be my last trip. Robotics and embodied AI are just getting started. The next ten years are going to reshape how we think about physical work. We ended on the Great Wall, a 2,000 year old marvel of engineering, after two weeks staring at the next one. The robots are coming. I just went to meet them first.

One AI model for drones, robot dogs and smart glasses, without platform-specific retraining. Perceptron just introduced Mk1.5 for embodied agents, calling it its best-performing public model yet. It understands audio and tracks objects through video. It can also search the web, spin up subagents to tackle bigger jobs in parallel, and combine their results. And it’s fast: Perceptron reports up to 4.7× faster end-to-end responses than Mk1 on the same hardware. Image Q&A dropped from 1.7 seconds to 0.51 seconds in its tests. Turning on reasoning can improve accuracy further. Mk1.5 is available now, with support for custom tools and robot control.

The world’s first embodied AI theme park just opened… with 300+ robots on the job. AGIBOT and Chimelong have launched the first phase of the rollout at Chimelong Spaceship Park in Zhuhai, China. Robots are everywhere: aerial acts, synchronized dance crews, boxing and table tennis. They’re performing, guiding visitors, welcoming guests, providing companionship, supporting education and working in retail. This is a major family theme park with more than 10 million visits since opening. Robots give Chimelong a tech upgrade and visitors a new reason to visit. For AGIBOT, that means hundreds of robots working across entertainment, education and hotel services. AGIBOT’s 20,000th humanoid, an A3 Ultra, also rolled off the production line and was delivered to Chimelong on launch day.

We have plenty of human demonstration data for movement. We don’t have enough for touch. Without tactile feedback, foundation models can’t feel if an object is slipping, soft, or fragile during complex manipulation. Matrix Inno is bringing three data-collection gloves to IROS 2026: the RigidCore Tactile+EMF, the Fabric Tactile + EMF, and the Fabric Tactile + UltraLite Motion Glove. The hardware tracks pressure and hand pose simultaneously during human demos, mapping exactly where contact happens and how it shifts in real time. Wearables like this are how we finally get real, continuous contact data at scale. Source: Matrix Inno @moxianmxkj
Bring touch into robot learning. We're bringing three data-collection gloves to IROS 2026: the RigidCore Tactile+EMF, the Fabric Tactile + EMF, and the Fabric Tactile + UltraLite Motion Glove. The RigidCore Tactile+EMF model offers 842 pressure-sensing points at 2 mm spatial resolution, while the Fabric Tactile + EMF model comes with 360 points as standard. Both EMF models combine contact pressure sensing with 25-DoF hand-pose tracking. The Fabric Tactile + UltraLite Motion Glove brings tactile sensing, bend sensing, and an IMU together in one wearable. Come see all three gloves at IROS 2026, try our Fabric Tactile + EMF, and talk to our team about ordering. Orders for the textile model will open after its showcase at the conference. Here’s @elonmusk’s latest take on humanoid robots, from his CCTV interview. He expects at least 1 billion humanoids within 10 years, possibly sooner. That could rise to 10 billion in 15 years and 100 billion in 20. His reasoning: if robot numbers roughly double each year, that’s a tenfold increase every three to four years. He thinks everyone will want a robot of their own: a friendly helper like C-3PO or R2-D2, potentially even more capable. The uses he describes include caring for aging parents, looking after children, tutoring them one-on-one and taking on all kinds of work. He also expects businesses where one person directs hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands of physical robots and AI agents. That would multiply how much a single person can get done. He predicts universal high income and a future where money itself becomes less important.
100 billion humanoids in 20 years? Elon told CCTV we could hit 10 billion in 15 years, then add another zero in just five more. He’s envisioning one-person businesses running thousands of robots and AI agents.

This robot can actually take you on at soccer now. ⚽ Skild AI is fine-tuning its S1 model with self-play reinforcement learning, the idea that helped power AlphaGo and OpenAI’s Dota 2 bots. S1 builds on skills it already has, playing recent versions of itself in simulation with one goal: score. As it improves, newer versions become tougher training opponents. After 140+ simulated years, it learned to shield the ball and tackle without separate rewards for those moves. They emerged because they helped it score. No new human demonstrations are needed during self-play. In early four-agent simulations, passing and coordination are starting to emerge, too.

Tesla is moving Optimus toward mass production, with orders already going to Chinese suppliers. China’s 21st Century Business Herald reports that Tesla began a new round of supplier audits on September 17, after its team arrived in Ningbo. The reported work includes checking production consistency and helping suppliers set up equipment. Earlier audits covered joint modules, precision parts and assembly quality, using automotive-style requirements for production speed and yield. July supply-chain reporting described parts orders covering hundreds of Gen3 robots and supplier expansion plans based on 100,000 robots. Suppliers are expanding capacity and developing new production processes. Meanwhile, component costs are being broken down against an eventual selling-price target of around $20,000, making faster production and fewer defective parts central to the ramp. The production plan calls for converting Fremont’s Model S/X lines for Optimus, targeting a start by the end of 2026 and eventual capacity of 1 million robots a year. Initial deployments are intended for Tesla’s own factories.

Your next tennis practice partner... could be a robot. 🎾 TENNIIX ULTRA MAX, built by LimX Dynamics and Enhanced Robotics, debuted at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals opening ceremony in Shenzhen, where Wang Qiang gave it a try. It moves around the court on a TRON 2 base, changes its launch height and adjusts the placement and spin of its next feed based on your return.
TRON 2 was already three robots in one. ZINOVA just gave it a new form: a construction system. LimX’s TRON 2 modular platform supports dual-arm, wheeled-leg and bipedal configurations. For this POC, ZINOVA paired humanoid manipulation with industrial-arm reach, expanding its workspace in multiple directions and at different heights. The new configuration assembles formwork with a nail gun and lumber, then places and ties multilayer rebar. Tool Intelligence lets it grasp, feel and use the tools workers already rely on across a multi-step workflow. TRON 2 isn’t limited to its standard configurations. Industry teams can build new robot forms and applications on top of the same hardware, development tools and training stack without starting over. A fixed robot has to find a job that fits its body. TRON 2 can change its body to fit the job.

So elegant... Unitree’s 1.82 m H2 doesn’t just throw punches. It looks right at home on the dance floor, too. This was at the WorldSkills opening ceremony in Shanghai.
At the Humanoid Robot Games, fighting is hands down the most intense event. Watching two full-size humanoids in the 80 kg class trade punches right in front of you is something else. You can literally hear the metal smashing together with every hit. The blue team from Beijing Information Science and Technology University took the title. Both sides used Unitree H2 robots. This was the final round of the title fight, and both sides went all out.

The world’s first humanoid robot theater show just premiered in Shenzhen... even the host is a robot. Fresh off street-dance gold at the second World Humanoid Robot Games, Lumos is taking its robots into a full stage production. The 45-minute show features dance, sketch comedy, crosstalk, martial arts, DJ sets and magic. The NIX robots perform autonomously throughout, trading jokes with a child and helping a magician. The hard part is keeping the robots and human cast in sync. Every entrance, line, gesture and transition has to happen on cue. Shenzhen Culture and Tourism helped create the show and will run regular performances. This offers a working example for expanding the commercial use of humanoids in live entertainment.
A Successful Global Debut for Lumos Robot Theater! On September 19, Lumos Robot Theater’s “Robots and Their Friends” made its global debut, bringing robots to the stage for an exciting new live performance experience. The first show was a great success, and we’re thrilled to welcome more audiences to experience the show in person. The stage is ready. Come meet NIX and its friends! #LumosRobotics #Robotics #HumanoidRobots #LumosNIX

This seems cool: up to 4.5kg grasp load (though very much depending on grasp), seems like it has passive/mechanical backdrivable joints, and active stiffness control. Seems much, much more like a human hand than most things I have seen. Implemented in part via a low-backlash, low-damping reducer; which is interesting. Potentially how they avoid the need for qdd/low gear ratio actuators, but still get mechanical transparency.
Unitree Introducing: Unitree Dex5-S Dexterous Hand 22 Degrees of Freedom 1:1 Real-Hand Size👋 Precision biomimetic dexterous hand, price from $6.5K (Tax and Shipping cost excluded), with all 22 joints supporting smooth backdrivability, and each joint equipped with limit impact torque protection.

These robots really bring the stage to life! Honestly, they're even more eye-catching than the human backup dancers. AGIBOT's X2 robots joined the performers at the Greater Bay Area Film Concert, dancing in sync. Wouldn't this be a lot less fun to watch without them?

This will get you hyped... it’s a real humanoid robot band. 🤖🎸 CASBOT BAND was easily one of my favorite things at WRC. Four full-size CASBOT 02 humanoids actually play guitar, bass, keyboard and drums, staying in sync while performing with a human lead singer. If I ever open a bar, I’m absolutely getting a robot band. Then no matter how badly I sing, I’ll always have a band backing me up. lol
