Today in Abuja, we launched the third round of our National Voting Intentions Survey, NVIS 3.0, bringing together stakeholders from INEC, IPAC, NOA, civil society and the policy community to confront what the numbers are telling us. Nigerians are willing to participate, but they are also wary. 61% say fear of violence could keep them away from the polls, while confidence in INEC has fallen to 34%. The challenge, then, is not simply getting Nigerians to want to vote. It is creating an electoral environment they can trust enough to show up for.

As we look towards 2027, NVIS 3.0 asks an important question: what will it take to turn intention into participation? Read the full report 👉 shorturl.at/c6OeG #NVIS3.0 #NigeriaDecides2027 #WillingButWary

SUNDAY QUESTION. We talk a lot about who gets our vote. But in a world where what we see, hear and believe can be shaped long before we get to the ballot box, maybe there’s another question worth asking: who gets to shape it? You? The algorithm? A campaign? An influencer? A bot? And where does influence end and our own choice begin? This week, everybody decided it was time to talk big. Wike bet his entire job on one election outcome, such confidence, you’d think he controls the results. Or does he? A governor guaranteed his party will win “any election” in his state. Another politician warned his own people they’d be finished if they don’t deliver. Bold claims all around, except the courts clearly didn’t get the memo, or chose to play their own part instead, nullifying a primary this week over paperwork. Meanwhile, INEC says 10.7 million Nigerians registered to vote, and PVC collection starts October 9. Big promises up top, real power waiting to be collected underneath. Can tech make elections more trustworthy? Can AI help us spot what’s real, follow what’s happening and hold systems accountable? Or will it create new challenges we’re only beginning to understand? Let’s talk about it at the AI & Democracy Forum. aianddemocracyforum.org 14- 15 October 2026 | Abuja #AIandDemocracy #NigeriaDecides2027 #DemocracyAndTechnology #AIDF2026

To wind down the Independence Day celebrations, our writer takes a delightfully sarcastic victory lap around another green-and-white October 1st, asking if we’re actually independent or just exceptionally good at quote-tweeting our problems into oblivion. Pushing past the ancient “youth are the leaders of tomorrow” fairy tale, they dig into what democracy, real accountability, and civic power actually mean for a generation tired of being treated like campaign crowd fillers. Dive into this week’s edition of our Gen Z blog series, read through, and tell us in the comments what you think the writer is really trying to say—because if we can spend hours decoding obscure internet drama, we can certainly spare two minutes decoding our own future. 👉 shorturl.at/4gc6D

66 years. And still becoming. Nigeria, we wish you a future where democracy delivers, institutions endure, citizens participate, and every vote matters. As we look back on 66 years of our journey, and toward to another election, we wish for a Nigeria where progress is not just promised, but felt; where differences do not divide us; and where every generation gets a fairer chance to build, belong and thrive. May the next chapter be one of deeper democracy, stronger institutions and shared prosperity. 66 years behind us, a democracy still ahead of us. Let’s build it. Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria!

At 66, Nigeria is still a conversation in progress, loud in some rooms, quiet in others, but never finished. We have seen the country argue with itself and still show up the next morning. We have watched hope get tired and somehow catch its breath again. Today we celebrate the Nigeria that raised us, fed us jollof we’ll defend with our lives, and taught us that love for a country can hold both pride and prayer in the same hand. Happy Independence Day, from all of us at Yiaga Africa who still believe this nation is worth building, one honest conversation, one vote, one voice at a time. #NaijaAt66

The ballot box isn’t the only box shaping elections. There’s the search box. The comment box. The inbox. The chat box. And increasingly, the prompt box. What voters see, what they believe, what they share, and what they never see at all, can all be formed long before Election Day. So, who chooses what enters the box, in the age of AI? Join the conversation at the AI & Democracy Forum, as we explore AI, elections, accountability, safeguards and the future of democratic participation. 14–15 October 2026 Abuja. aianddemocracyforum.org #AIandDemocracy #NigeriaDecides2027 #DemocracyAndTechnology #AIDF2026

AI is reshaping the politics of belief. So the real conversation isn’t simply, “Is AI good or bad for democracy?” It’s: Who controls it? Who benefits from it? And who is protected when things go wrong? And perhaps most importantly: what does all of this mean for people, the women, men and communities whose choices shape democracy? On 14-15 October 2026, the AI and Democracy Forum (AIDF) comes to Abuja, bringing together voices from technology, elections, media, civil society and democratic governance. Because the future of AI and democracy isn't just about the technology. It's about us. #AIandDemocracy #ElectionIntegrity #InformationIntegrity #Africa #AIDF
