Sometimes, if we take the time, we discover that people we least expected are actually incredibly open-minded, wonderful, and perhaps even share traits with us. Last year, while walking down the street in Türkiye, a neighbor sitting on her balcony with friends invited me over for tea. A 73-year-old, traditional neighbor was there too—someone I had previously only exchanged greetings with but didn't really know; I am certain we had both formed some preconceptions about each other. She had such a youthful spirit; she was enthusiastic, eager, and joyful, just like a child. She had recently lost her husband yet still clung to life with an admirable tenacity. She had transcended the boundaries of her past life, learned English, and was planning to visit a friend in England. I love moments like these. 🤍
