We're holding a recording weekend in the rather beautiful village of Arncliffe in Upper Wharfedale over the next couple of days. Our teams are hoping to survey 8 buildings - wonder what interesting features we'll find! yvbsg.org.uk/events.html

Very enjoyable visit to Foulbridge Farm in the Vale of Pickering last week - a Georgian farmhouse incorporating a timber-framed hall built by the Knights Templar in 1288. Lots of interest - interesting construction, burn marks, good farm buildings and a three-seater privy!

The fabulous finials at Old Hall, Westgate, Baildon (not to be confused with Baildon Hall in Hallfield Drive which is a different building!). The house dates from the mid C17 with early C18 alterations.
Great visit to Baildon Hall (now a social club) on Saturday. A largely C17 stone house with C19 alterations, incorporating a C15 timber-framed wing. An earlier screens passage still survives inside.

Members spent two days this week investigating the fabulous Oakwell Hall, Birstall, and trying to understand the stonework and the timberwork inside. Not sure that a consensus was reached - discussions are ongoing!

Had a great time at the weekend surveying an unspoilt farmstead on the North York Moors - farmhouse, piggery, granary, turf house, barns and more. Plenty of interesting features to record - and the sun shone too!

Interesting timber spotted today forming the porch lintel at East Ayton church. Curved with lots of peg holes. Could it be one of those rare things - a ships' timber? We think it might be!

Excellent day today recording a cottage in East Ayton - more complicated than it appears from outside. Hope the drawings will resolve some of the puzzles! Rather strangely, the Yorkshire sliding sash windows had 'lugs' like a vertical sliding sash, but why?

Another day, another snicket in York city centre. This is Lady Peckett's Yard which leads from Pavement to Fossgate, passing the rear part of Herbert House.

What a great dayschool we had yesterday, held in the splendour of Skipton Town Hall with 120 people present. We thank our excellent speakers for sharing their knowledge of #YorkshireDales buildings with us - looking forward now to getting out and exploring some of them!
