I was married to Daniel for eight years. We had two beautiful children, a home we worked hard to build, and what I believed was a marriage worth protecting.
When Daniel lost his job, I became the person holding everything together. I paid the bills, covered the children's school fees, and even sold my gold jewelry to help him start a small business.
During those difficult months, my younger sister, Michelle, visited us frequently. I trusted her completely. She was the one person I could call when I needed someone to watch the children.
Then one Friday evening, Daniel came home and asked me to sit down.
He wouldn't look me in the eyes.
He said he had fallen in love with someone else and wanted a divorce.
I thought it was a joke until he mentioned Michelle's name.
My own sister.
The woman who had eaten at my table, slept in my guest room, and held my children in her arms.
When I confronted her, she started crying and said their relationship had happened accidentally.
But Daniel had already rented an apartment for them.
Two weeks later, he moved out.
Before leaving, he told me something I will never forget.
“You're a good woman, but I've outgrown this marriage.”
I didn't beg him to stay.
I simply watched him walk away with the man I thought I knew disappearing with him.
What hurt most was that my children kept asking when their father was coming home.
I had no answer.
But the biggest shock came three months later, when I discovered that Daniel had used our joint savings to finance the apartment he shared with my sister.
And that wasn't even the worst thing he had taken from me.
