Five companies have cleared regulators for cell-cultivated animal products: UPSIDE Foods and GOOD Meat (chicken), Mission Barns (pork fat), Wildtype (salmon), and Believer Meats (chicken). UPSIDE and GOOD Meat have USDA clearance and are serving cell-cultivated chicken in restaurants, not grocery chains. Wildtype’s salmon is FDA-cleared and already on a handful of menus. Mission Barns has USDA label and inspection approval and a limited Sprouts placement in Oakland for products that mix cultivated pork fat into conventional meat. Grocery shelves are still years off — a realistic estimate is around 2030. Most of what’s for sale now is cell-cultured for restaurants, not 3D-printed.
