On the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we remember the nearly 3,000 people who were killed, including 67 Britons. My thoughts are with all those who lost friends and family members that terrible day. Time may pass, but I know the grief is still felt just as deeply today. On this anniversary, we must remember that hatred and fear did not have the last word on 9/11. The terrorists sought to weaken and divide America, and everyone who believes in the values our countries share. But our response was clear: those who seek to destroy our way of life will never win. I saw that same defiance in Greater Manchester. When I was Mayor, Manchester was the victim of two horrific terrorist attacks. I will never forget the messages of support and friendship from people across America who knew better than anyone the suffering of our city. Some of the children of those killed in the 9/11 attacks wrote to the families of the people killed in Manchester, and they said this: We are you and you are us. We are one. We will never forget these terrible events, but we refuse to be defined by them. Terror still knocks on the door of democracy, but the United Kingdom and the United States stand together in memory of those we lost, and in defence of the values we cherish. We are you and you are us. And we will prevail.

Cervical cancer is preventable. Starting today, 4 million women who have fallen behind on cervical screening will be offered a free HPV self-testing kit. Our NHS - making it easier to stay healthy and there for us all when we need it.

Devastated to hear that two police officers have lost their lives while on duty in Cleveland this morning, as well as five members of the public. My thoughts are with the families and loved ones of everyone involved, and with everyone at Cleveland Police. Thank you to the emergency services responding in incredibly difficult circumstances. I would urge people to avoid speculation at this time.

We cannot accept this as the new normal.

Robert Bush’s actions were utterly abhorrent, and my thoughts are with all the bereaved families in Hull who have been so badly let down. In the wake of this horrific case, we will now bring forward comprehensive proposals to ensure respect and dignity for the deceased in every setting, including proper regulation of the funeral sector. We are determined to drive rogue operators out of this industry, and protect other families from suffering this same heartache.

My thoughts today have been with Alice, Bebe and Elsie, their families, the survivors, and all those affected by the Southport attack two years ago. We stand with them now and always. We also pay tribute again today to the extraordinary life-saving work that the emergency services and NHS staff did that day, in the most traumatic of circumstances. Their courage and dedication remains an inspiration to us all.

Since I became an MP, there have been 22 attempts to reform social care but instead the problems have just got worse. More families have been let down. Our NHS has felt more pressure. We can’t keep walking away from this. @andyburnham is right: we need a system that gives people the dignity, support and security they deserve.

This is the issue governments keep putting off. That ends now.
