Vittorio Arrigoni arrived in 2008 with the International Solidarity Movement. He wrote Guerrilla Radio plus a book on the 2008-09 war, and stayed as a peace activist.
On April 14 2011, a Salafist group grabbed him, released a video of him bloodied and blindfolded, and accused him of entering Gaza only to spread corruption.
They gave Hamas 30 hours to free a jailed Salafist leader and Hamas refused, so they suffocated him and left the body in an abandoned house in the north. Two of the killers got life.
He went in assuming solidarity would be returned. Gad Saad uses cases like this in Suicidal Empathy. Aim that compassion at a hostile cause and it can get you killed.
