I worked at the National Academy of Sciences when I was a student. This building was just in front of my uni. In Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences is not like a honorary club as in the US. It is a public institution with thousands of employees, labs, equipment. They have research facilitates in each part of Ukraine. It is a crucial research institution which produces most of Ukrainian academic output from astronomy to biology to history. Russia (again!) destroys our culture and knowledge production.
