The world will miss Pope Frances’ wisdom, kindness and humility. His message on how to overcome the cleavages fragmenting our societies was clear: this can only be achieved through love. My deepest condolences to the millions of those whose hearts were touched by the Holy Father.

My condolences to those who lost their loved ones, including children, in Russia’s horrible Palm Sunday attack on Ukraine’s civilians in Sumy. Actions speak louder than words. Russia’s talk of “peace” is empty as long as it continues its brutal aggression.

The people of #Ukraine are defending their right to live. It’s that simple. They deserve all the support they can get to defend this right and to live and prosper as a sovereign nation living in peace.

My very last presidential visit abroad leads me — of course — to #Czechia. A neighbouring country, which hardly feels foreign to anyone in #Slovakia. #Slovakia is a friend of #Georgia and its people, supporting their #EU aspirations. The enactment of the law on foreign influence goes against these very aspirations. The vast public support in #Georgia for the European Union and its values deserves to be respected.

I am shocked. We are all shocked by the terrible and vile attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico. We may not fully comprehend yet the seriousness of what has happened today. The shooting of the Prime Minister is first and foremost an attack on a human being — but it’s also an attack on democracy. Violence is absolutely unacceptable. Hate speech and rhetoric full of hate, which we witness across society, leads to hateful acts. Please, let us stop this. The police have arrested the perpetrator and will provide further information when possible. Until then, let us not pass quick judgments, please. I think that the most important thing we should all focus on at this moment is Robert Fico's fast recovery.

Utterly shocked by today's brutal attack on #Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico, which I condemn in strongest possible terms. I wish him lot of strength in this critical moment and early recovery. My thoughts are also with his family and close ones.

After a year, I’ve returned to #Chernihiv in a region in the north of #Ukraine that borders Russia. I am humbled by the courage and resilience of the people of the region, which still experiences daily attacks and shelling. I am also proud that #Slovakia and our civil society are engaged in several reconstruction and recovery projects here. “Our biggest source of hope is our people”, the Governor of Chernihiv Region Vyacheslav Chaus told me today.
