Perhaps the UAE's candidate for UN Secretary-General Lana Nusseibeh "could begin by explaining why her own government has been repeatedly implicated in helping fuel the genocidal catastrophe in Sudan." My latest piece for Zeteo on a big scandal at the UN: zeteo.com/p/the-uae-helped-f…

These days, authoritarian governments in East Africa are literally hunting dissidents across borders. Activists are being abducted and deported. Kenya, once a refuge, is now a danger. I discussed it all with @MarthaKarua for @ResistBureau. Watch and share: youtube.com/watch?v=g_KuRz_b…

Horrendous. Which countries back and arm these killers?
One year ago, the RSF committed horrific atrocities in El Fasher. Civilians were killed, beaten, raped and tortured during the RSF’s assault on the city. One year later, civilians across Sudan continue to suffer. Drone strikes kill and injure scores of civilians across the country almost daily. Civilians are forced to leave their homes and their livelihoods. And severe food insecurity is spreading. The United States mourns the loss of life due to the conflict in Sudan and is working every day to advance efforts towards lasting peace. Foreign military support to the belligerents must cease, aid workers must have unhindered humanitarian access, and civilians must be protected and able to return to their homes. Perpetrators of atrocities must be held to account. The Sudanese people have suffered enough; they deserve to live their lives without constant fear of violence.

The United Arab Emirates "has so much blood on its hands in Sudan." For its nominee to be UN secretary-general "would be an outrage." Lana Nusseibeh has been a lead apologist for genocidal Emirates policy. "It is a scandal" for her to be considered. trib.al/f4rWlnk

Quite to the contrary, Kenya has not expressed support for any candidate at this point. We are following keenly the ongoing campaigns for UNSG including the expression of interest by new candidates and are confident that a candidate with the capacity to lead the UN at this critical juncture will not only receive our support but that of the majority of Members of the UN.

Moscow is set to welcome a high-level Kenyan delegation this week for the Third Russia-Africa Summit. Kenya’s return to the table is a marriage of convenience born out of crisis (mass military conscription). The domestic backlash over young Kenyans in the trenches has been severe.
