‼️ BREAKING: Serbia targeted activists with Pegasus spyware. At least 14 people, including student protesters and opposition figures, were infected. Citizen Lab confirmed one iPhone was infected with NSO Group’s Pegasus through an iMessage zero-click exploit. Two NoviSpy infections were also confirmed. One Serbian student's Android phone was confiscated during police questioning. Amnesty International's Security Lab then found a new NoviSpy variant on it, rebuilt specifically to evade detection. Serbia's intelligence office calls the findings "trivial sensationalism." What led to these findings, are Apple's threat notifications, sent on Aug. 13, to users in 110 countries, prompting 12 of the Serbian targets to contact SHARE Foundation. Serbian parliamentary elections are in October.

Five groups that campaigned for Britain's Online Safety Act are now pushing age verification and digital ID bills in 21 US states and Congress. Four of them are British. One of them is the trade association for the companies that sell the age checks.

‼️ The European Commission has allowed a citizens' initiative demanding EU law keep digital ID and age verification voluntary, privacy-preserving and non-discriminatory for accessing online services. The initiative called 'Stop Killing The Internet: No Digital ID & No Age Verification' now needs 1 million signatures across at least 7 member states within 12 months. Once the target is hit, Brussels must formally answer, right as it rolls out the EU Digital Identity Wallet and pilots its age-verification app.

We signed because internet restrictions and software age checks threaten independent software, Linux ecosystems, modding, private servers, and ultimately game preservation by making end-of-life plans for games far more difficult. I completely understand where you’re coming from, but for a lot of gamers physical discs are the only way they could afford to play games because they could get them secondhand. You can also give games to your younger siblings Which is a great way to introduce them to the games you were playing. Most importantly though, as we saw from PlayStation this past week, if the media we buy is only digital, it can be taken away from us at a moment’s notice with no recourse. Imagine that, one day your entire library of games could be deleted overnight because technically you don’t own it.
