BREAKING: The Newcastle crash driver has now been publicly identified as 18 year old Sri Lankan man, Indika Bambrick Samarasinghe.
He has been charged after a BMW ploughed into Newcastle Knights supporters lining the footpath at Wallsend to farewell the team for the NRL Grand Final.
Police allege Samarasinghe was driving erratically, lost control at the Newcastle Link Road roundabout about 9.30am Saturday, and hit the crowd.
Ten people were seriously injured, including three children. A five year old girl was left critical. A 67 year old man is also seriously injured.
He faces three counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, three of negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and three of causing bodily harm by misconduct.
He is already known to Police.
His licence has been suspended.
Police bail was refused.
He is due in Newcastle Bail Court today, where he will formally apply for bail.
