#dandarostreets A 27-year-old London consultant earning £130,000 a year says he still feels “broke” despite taking home around £7,000 a month after tax. Jaqs Nelson says about £6,000 goes towards his mortgage, bills, Uber, Deliveroo, dates and other expenses, leaving him with roughly £1,000 to £1,500 to save or invest.
Nelson, who owns a three-bedroom home with his partner, currently has about £14,000 in savings and describes himself as a “HENRY” — High Earner, Not Rich Yet. He says the cost of living, taxes, fluctuating bonuses and a previous £70,000 business loss have made it difficult to feel financially secure despite his six-figure income.
