What I did after uni and skipping NYSC.
Two years after uni, my life looks nothing like what my transcript suggested it would become.
Immediately after I graduated, fear became very real. I had a second-class lower, no connections, and I skipped NYSC I was too broke and I was my family Anthony Joshua I don't want to die I was scared for my safety due to insecurities in the country.
I knew, deep down, that getting a job would not be straightforward for someone like me. There was no safety net. No family leverage. If things went wrong, I wasn’t “starting over.” I was going back to the SAPA mode.
At that point, I had no real skills. Nothing impressive. Nothing that could be packaged neatly on a CV. All I had was the ability to talk, to show up, and to respond quickly.
I was always available, always asking questions, always trying to be useful. Coming from a poverty-stricken background teaches you one thing early: mistakes are expensive, and hesitation costs you more than effort.
So I took myself seriously, even when I didn’t feel ready. I tried different paths, looked confused for a while, failed publicly, and kept going anyway. The odds were not in my favour. People told me directly that my grade would limit my chances, that scholarships would be difficult, that opportunities might pass me by.They didn’t.
Along the way, I earned scholarships, secured a remote job, and impacted people’s lives in ways I never imagined,
In my first year putting myself out there consistently, I grew this account from zero to fifty thousand people. Financially, I moved from struggling on about $700 to earning over $15,000 within two years after uni.
This isn’t a story about tech. After uni and NYSC, Some people will choose that path, and some won’t. That’s fine.
What actually changed my life were the attributes I built, not the industry I chose.
I learned to be responsive in a world that rewards speed. I stayed consistent when motivation disappeared. I became patient enough to let results catch up to effort.
I made myself visible instead of waiting to be discovered. And I refused shortcuts, even when things were hard.
That’s why I share my journey here. To show that background is not destiny, and that you don’t need privilege to build momentum. You need the right habits, repeated long enough.
If this resonates, we talk about these things deeply every Wednesday on X Spaces 8:00pm. Real stories, real conversations for people who want more from life without cutting corners.
