There’s a lane for a 2026 or 2028 candidate to talk about stories like this without shirking personal responsibility, while still acknowledging that the government has made gambling easier, more accessible, and more pervasive than ever, with real consequences for families.
I just found out that a couple I’ve been friends with for years now are getting a divorce because the husband lost over 300k in gambling and just lost the house. No bullshit

It really was not encouraging how few people seemed to put the two and two together between him running in an unwinnable district and him using messaging specifically designed to appeal to the online left/DSA activist class.
Not to burst anyones bubble, but if elected Oliver Larkin would almost certainly end up with the politics of AOC or Zohran. The only reason people glaze him so much is because he did not have a chance to disappoint the DSA left like basically every elected ever

Ofc, we have to see what actually happens in November, but polling is a pretty ominous sign for Republicans. Trump’s approval on foreign affairs is down to 29%, with 71% disapproving, which is basically as low as George H.W. Bush during the heat of the Iraq war.

Since 2023, more than 200,000 Dashers in New York City were underpaid or paid late under the City’s delivery worker pay rules. These errors were unintentional, but that doesn’t make them acceptable. Dashers should be paid in full, on time, every time. We take full responsibility, and we’re deeply sorry.

Feels like some Democrats are being a bit mute here, could have been a huge moment for the CA AG to address the oligarchic concentration of economic/political power, as more of the institutions that shape American culture and information get consolidated into fewer hands.
BREAKING: Paramount has reached a settlement with California and other states suing to block its proposed acquisition of Warner Bros., according to Bloomberg.
The settlement comes after California AG Rob Bonta caved and stopped attempting to block the merger.
The final four holdout states have reportedly now conceded as well.

A very big realization many liberals continue to have is that throwing money at a problem and being earnest about solving it may not fix it. Sometimes the institutions we believe are part of the solution are actually making the problem worse. Some problems are more than money.
This is the per-pupil funding for the elementary school Nikole Hannah-Jones sent her daughter to.
If you subscribe to the funding theory of education, how much would have been enough? It's already crossed the average per capita annual income threshold. Maybe $100k? $200k?

And this goes well beyond education. We see versions of it in housing, healthcare, homelessness and infrastructure, where we spend enormous amounts of money and create layers of institutions meant to address a problem while the actual outcomes barely improve or get worse.

A lot of good stuff from @AOC here. Given the market instability around AI and the competitive bubble dynamics of hyperscaling, it’s important that a politician is saying early: IF these bets go bad, taxpayers shouldn’t be expected to bail out the companies that took the risks.

The scale here matters, because AI infrastructure spending is enormous, companies are increasingly tapping debt markets, and retirement funds and ordinary investors are exposed to the broader AI boom. If the “bubble” bursts, the fallout probably wont stay in Silicon Valley!
