In their place, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) have taken over as the country's leading cause of death, driven by an ageing population, rapid urbanisation and shifting diets and lifestyles. This week, 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 takes a closer look at India's energy mix. While the renewables are gaining ground, India still relies on its older energy system significantly. Coal and lignite still account for 59.2% of primary energy supply, even after a decade of rapid renewable growth. Electricity generation from renewables rose by 120% between 2015–16 and 2024–25, yet coal and lignite supply grew alongside it, not in its place, adding 1,64,554 KToE over the same period. At Prabhav 2026, the Impact Investor Council’s flagship convening, leaders from across the impact ecosystem came together for ‘Blended Finance: From Catalyst to Scale’, a panel on how blended finance can move beyond de-risking individual transactions to building investable, scalable markets. Moderated by Abhinav Bhatia, Partner - Innovation & Blended Finance, Sattva Consulting, the discussion brought together Aanchal Jain, Associate Director, IPE Global; Ajay Mahipal, Co-Founder and Partner, HealthKois; Neha Khanna, Associate Director, Climate Policy Initiative; and Anushree Parekh, Head of Education, Reliance Foundation. Global blended finance flows reached $18.3 billion across 123 deals in 2024, while India’s blended finance market stood at ~$1.3 billion, representing 40% of the Asian market. So the opportunity lies in turning successful blended finance transactions into market infrastructure, thereby opening the door for capital to reach harder-to-finance sectors such as healthcare and climate adaptation, at scale.
