Some deportees remain locked up. Lawyers sometimes don't even know where they're held. In Equatorial Guinea, authorities tried to send one man back home, but he didn't have any documents -- he remains trapped in a Malabo hotel, unable to leave rfi.fr/en/international-news…

A horrible killing of a highly original Islamic thinker Unconfirmed but aligns w/ Ansaru's MO. There's much uncertainty over the group's present composition and leadership, however Potentially a move to try to reassert relevance in NW? Esp. in light of recent ISSP activity

I Confirm that, with my approval, earlier this morning, the index case for Nigeria’s first imported Ebola virus disease departed Abuja for Switzerland. The index patient was clinically much improved, stable, conscious, communicating, and her clinical laboratory test results closing towards baseline. This does not mean she is not still infectious, hence the strict protocols in place. The patient was evacuated along with her spouse who has remained asymptomatic. I thank all the various clinical staff for the high quality care they provided the patient as well as the public health personnel who ensured the evacuation was carried out in line with best public health measures for such evacuations. We will provide further updates later this afternoon after the patient and her spouse lands successfully in their destination. All public health measures are continuing to ensure successful containment of the imported virus. I urge Nigerians to remain vigilant and rely on information from credible sources.
BREAKING NEWS REPORT: EBOLA PATIENT EVACUATED FROM NIGERIA VIA AIR AMBULANCE The index patient diagnosed with Ebola virus in Nigeria has been evacuated from the country early this morning through an air ambulance at the private jet wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, ARISE News sources informed us. ARISE News was tipped off by a news source that the patient who is a woman and wife of a Swiss diplomat in Nigeria would be flown out of Nigeria by 6am this morning through a medivac plane which was already at the airport waiting to evacuate her. Our crew deployed to the General Aviation Terminal later obtained pictures of the arrival of a convoy of vehicular ambulance from Abuja city centre with diplomatic vehicles in the entourage. The three vehicle convoy had an international Agency vehicle entering the Private Jet section of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport. Airport officials cordoned off the private wing of the airport but ARISE News eventually obtained videos of a medivac plane with crews eventually evacuating the sick passenger suspected to be the Ebola index case due to the special nature of the medical evacuation. A source told ARISE News that the Federal Government will make the announcement of the medical evacuation only after the plane has taken off and exited the Nigerian airspace.

residents tell @AFP at least 20 dead, in a likely bandit attack, in Taraba state
Amnesty International strongly condemns the gunmen’s deadly attack on Binnari in Karim Lamido local government area of Taraba state in which at least 40 people were killed. The attack which took place on Friday 23 October 2026 shows utter disdain for the sanctity of life. Earlier police confirmed the killing of 10 people, but later in the day more bodies were recovered — and more are still being discovered. Apart from killing people wantonly the gunmen also burnt down foodstuff, homes, shops and motorcycles. The community is now littered with dead bodies, some burnt beyond recognition, as families declare many still missing. The Nigerian authorities continue to leave rural communities in some parts of the north at the mercy of gunmen that are repeatedly commit atrocities with impunity. This attack must be investigated impartially, while survivors must be provided with adequate reparations. On the side of the authorities, issuing bland statements condemning these horrific attacks is not enough. Genuine commitment to protecting the people must be demonstrated by ensuring adequate security of lives and property, as well as ensuring justice for the victims. Consistent failure of the authorities to bring the suspected perpetrators to justice is clearly emboldening impunity.

State police will soon be a reality in Nigeria, helping reduce ungoverned spaces and improve national security. President Tinubu, the National Assembly, State Assemblies, and our governors deserve praise for pushing through the necessary reform.

The Ebola patient in Nigeria is a Swiss woman -- the wife of a staff member at Switzerland’s embassy in Abuja, Swiss authorities told AFP. She arrived in Nigeria after travelling to Uganda. Neither she nor her husband travelled to DRC. vanguardngr.com/2026/10/ebol…

In 1950, there were 228mn people living in Africa, with about 33mn in cities. Today there are 1.6bn Africans, 19% of the world’s total, of whom 670mn live in cities. Almost unnoticed, Africa has become an urban story, explains the FT's David Pilling. ft.trib.al/XZw6TGM
