One of the biggest mistakes I made as a beginner trader was trying to understand everyone else’s strategy.
I’d come online, see someone post a clean trade and immediately think:
“What strategy did they use?”
Then I’d go down the rabbit hole.
Learn their concepts.
Change my charts.
Try a new setup.
Then someone else would post another insane trade…
And I’d do it all over again.
I was constantly jumping from strategy to strategy, chasing the shiny object.
Eventually, I realized I was asking the wrong question.
When you see another trader’s chart and their execution looks completely different from yours, your job isn’t to figure out what strategy they used.
Your job is to ask:
“Would my strategy have allowed me to take this trade?”
If yes, great.
You don’t need their strategy.
You need to get better at yours.
Study the execution.
Study the timing.
Study the risk management.
But don’t abandon your edge every time someone posts a beautiful chart.
You’re not supposed to collect strategies.
You’re supposed to master one.
And yes, there’s one exception:
If you don’t have an edge yet, you still need to search.
But once you find something that has a measurable edge?
Stop looking sideways. Start going deeper.
That’s where the real progress begins.
The goal isn’t to understand every strategy.
The goal is to become so good at your own edge that you don’t need to.
If you’re still finding your edge, keep learning. Keep practicing.
But once you find it, stop chasing and start mastering.
The market doesn’t reward the trader who knows the most strategies.
It rewards the trader who knows their edge best.
End.
