This week, @bofrench has gotten exactly what he wanted and what he could have never earned by skill or talent - massive amounts of attention for himself. This is not surprising if you’ve met Bo. He’s unimpressive in person, and quite effeminate. He was never going to distinguish himself in Texas politics by normal methods - eloquent speeches, great retail politicking, or just doing an excellent job. (Remember he was so bad as Tarrant County GOP Chair that every statewide elected official called on him to resign.) His only route to notoriety was something just like this - capturing eyeballs through outrageously offensive comments, pushing the Overton window ever further towards open racism. Bo has decided his path to prominence in Texas runs through becoming the hero of the White Nationalist Right. Now Texans have to decide if we’re going to let it happen.

I got a little Ken Paxton story for you. There’s so fucking many. While Paxton was under felony indictment, longtime donor James Webb gave him a $100,000 “gift” to pay his PERSONAL criminal-defense lawyers. Here’s where it gets interesting. Webb’s medical-imaging company was under a healthcare-fraud investigation involving Medicare and Medicaid billing. And KEN PAXTON’S OWN ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE was involved in that investigation. Webb gives Paxton $100,000. Webb’s company later pays $3.5 MILLION to settle the case. And apparently that $100,000 “gift” looked suspicious to more people than just me. A REPUBLICAN District Attorney, assisted by the TEXAS RANGERS, opened a BRIBERY investigation into Paxton’s acceptance of the money. And then the bribery investigation gets dropped. The official explanation? Webb and Paxton had a pre-existing relationship that supposedly put the $100,000 gift within an exception under Texas law. Who gives anyone a $100,000 gift expecting nothing in return?
