I love this post because I have a wife and it’s amazing. To be clear, my wife would call me a husband.
Silicon Valley keeps building me a husband when what I really want is a wife lol I don't want an agent that only does one-off, random tasks that are nice but not life-changing: booking flights, making dinner reservations, or buying tickets I want an AI wife who knows what’s on the family calendar, remembers there’s a birthday party Saturday and we haven’t bought a gift then sends me options, realizes we’re almost out of diapers and buys them, knows which bills are coming up, remembers someone needs a dentist appointment and books it, figures out what the hell we’re eating all week and what we need from the grocery store, and generally keeps track of the 47 things that need to happen before anyone else even realizes they need to happen. So, who's building me an AI wife that carries the mental load instead of an AI husband that waits for me to give it a chore??

NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious. Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm. For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-…

NEW: The biggest trading firm is so secretive it has no CEO or board of directors. Jane Street’s dominance means its leaders matter across the world, so we spent months trying to figure out who’s who. Here’s a gift link. Please read and share it bloomberg.com/features/2026-…

Flimsy versions of similar scorecards litter the internet. This was a months-in-the-making project for Weekend that gives an inside view of who really pulls the string in tech—as only @theinformation can provide.

Weird, this in-depth profile of Pangram doesn't focus at all on its founder's suspicious burping and food-microwaving habits. Instead there's just a bunch of stuff about how they built it, how it works, whether it works and why it matters bloomberg.com/news/features/…

So, for the last decade or so, every year, I have wondered... Should @theinformation finally assemble our list of the 50 most influential people in tech??? A list purely based on decades and decades of reporting, hundreds of sourcing calls a week, the REAL inside sense of how the tech industry operates. I've wondered this in part because all the other lists seems just way off to me—shaped by forces that are easy to spot: applications, lobbying, etc but not the simple question of who would anyone in the industry pick up the phone for? Because we are gluttons for punishment, we added the criteria that this list is over the next TEN years. While that's hard to predict, we wanted to be as informative as possible. This has been a scrupulous process and be honest, we're publishing in two days and @jemimacmcevoy and I are STILL debating, researching, shoring up the last two folks! That's how in the weeds we are getting. Other than checking one organizational thing, we have spoken to precisely zero PR people in putting this list together. I'm really excited to share The Information's Most Influential People in Tech with you all this Thursday. And @jemimacmcevoy and I are very excited to take you all in how the list was made, who we left off and why, and more, in this live Zoom call on publication day. You can register here. theinformation.com/events/lv…

Donald Trump is obsessed with the hot dogs at one of his golf courses. So obsessed that he orders one for everyone around him, including his Secret Service detail. Then, according to a former employee, the club bills the Secret Service for the hot dogs. forbes.com/sites/danalexande…

For 18 months, I was the only reporter in the world with this story. Because I'm good at my job. Say whatever you want about me... and you will. But I'm good at my job, and my outburst on Friday boils down to lingering resentment about not being "allowed" to be the best me that I can be by The Powers That Be. Hurt people hurt people, and I was certainly hurting last week. It manifested itself in ego and bravado. For people to turn that pain into something ugly is unfortunate, but to be expected in this day and age. Anyway, I broke this story and then spent 18 months being called a liar, a grifter, a fraud, etc. In the end, it turned out to be true. This really hurts my heart. While funny and will get lots of lulz, it's dehumanizing and makes my stomach turn. This is a serious issue, that this makes... I don't know if I can find the word for it. I don't know what to say. Can we create a game now that approves people coming in legally

Can we please please have some thoughtful evoution of copyright legislation for this new era? Wishful thinking but pretty darn urgent. The training topic is just so frustrating, in part, because the damage has been done and I don't think it will matter as much in the future. But a world without copyright protection and where tech companies just take whatever in the interest of national competitiveness is idiotic and closeminded. theinformation.com/briefings…
